Just got back from 10 days in Grand Bornand and thought I would share the following....

Ski passes can be booked online at

If you have digital photos <40Kb they can be added to your order (you have to have a photo for all passes over 3 days). It's possible to arrange for them to be left at the reception at L'Escale Camping so they are ready for you when you check in.

and then the tickets picked up from the Tourist Infomation in the centre of town.

There are obviously plenty of hire places but found that booking online with sport2000 at

you got a 50% discount and they are directly opposite the Gare Routier in the centre of the town.

Although the campsite provide you with a free ski-bus pass the route is via the central station which means it can take 15 minutes to get to the lifts. For €27 a week you can hire a locker at the base of the Rosay telecabine which will hold 4 pairs of skis and warm and dry 4 pairs of boots meaning you can easily walk to the lifts from the campsite in comfy shoes and with nothing to carry. Has the added benefit that it makes it easier to stop in town for that after ski vin chaud on the way back to the van.

The campsite at L'Escale is very good for people looking to try skiing from their MH for the first time. There are 15-20 seperate showers that always had hot water and were always clean. The toilets also were always clean. The site has a boot room which I would estimate has almost 200 pairs of boot warmers and a huge room for storing skis and boards. There is also a massive drying room meaning you can always get your jackets and gloves dry for the next day.

There are a good mix of pistes in the resort suitable for skiers and snowboarders, beginners and advanced alike. As it is not a destination for many package holidays the pistes are very quiet. I can honestly say that I did not have to queue at all all week even on Saturdays or the Wednesday when all the local schools hit the pistes.....

[forgot to say - Feel free to rip and add any of this to your website Kevin... It was a hugely valuable source of information for what was out first skiing trip in the van]
