They do what they say on the tin. You need to learn how to set it up - do it in the drive or somewhere private to start with - you will soon learn how to do it and then it takes just 5 mins on site. The first few times on the drive will take you quite a time until you get the hang of it.
Biggest problem - sites with trees and no direct line of sight to the satellite. This is the same for a £69 dish or a £350 pound one. You might need to put it on the roof? I try not to and use a tripod whenever possible. I've also got some fastenings on a plastic water pipe which I can lash to the bike rack if I'm pointing in the right direction.
I put the cable down through the side of the bed and out through the bottom seal of the locker.
They work fine and if you use it a lot you can always keep the decoder and add a motorised dish on the roof at a later date.

They're useable if you take the trouble to get the "knack" of using them. The Comag receiver included in the kit is excellent and costs double that price when re-branded from certain other sellers.
Best solution however is to keep a watch out for the usual spring camping offers from Lidl or Aldi. The kit they offer is virtually identical to the Maplin one but considerably cheaper. IIRC last spring they were £49.99. Maplin will also reduce their price to match once Lidl and Aldi put their offer on sale - so the advice is to be patient.
Hi,
We have just bought one and it's a steep learning curve
Also just bought a twin tuner Freeview PVR/DTR last week so have more tv channels than we could ever want - and yet more remotes
I cheated a bit as our house already had a sky digital dish on the wall when we moved in so just plugged in the cable and it worked a treat so haven't tried the dish alignment scenario yet (but have often watched others spend a happy? hour on campsites setting them up )
Just one question for the satellite experts:
The BBC radio 4 signal seems to be missing but other radio channels are ok
thats the main reason why we bought it !
have searched the web and there's something about manually tuning rather than relying on the EPG that comes up with autoscanning
Oh well if its another wet day tomorrow perhaps I'll crack it
Steve
