I am thinking of upgrading my sat nav and would welcome advice about the experience, reliability , ease of use etc that members have in respect of particular makes and models. I want one that covers europe and whic can be updated with points of interest. Can you help me?

David

In my opinion Tom Tom 710 has all you need with Europe maps and Poi's a plenty.

Greetings,

I have the Tom Tom 720 and can endorse Steve's comments, Tom Tom is a good make and I have found mine to be extremely useful, the 720 has Bluetooth and MP3 player as well, mine is the T model which gives traffic updates without any further expense.

Never let me down yet, although I am not keen on the basic windscreen mount.

I bought a Garmin 760 for three main reasons.
First the support from Garmin is first class, freephone number and all the help you may need.
Second it has 'Routes' ie it is possible to use a map source program to load the route you want to take not the one the sat nav decides.
Third it is also possible to use it as an off road unit. I load all the walks I want to do directly from the laptop and use it as a normal handheld GPS, brilliant.
So far as I am aware there are no other satnavs that allow the user to choose the entire route with via points etc as chosen by the user.
I hear the support from TomTom is non existent though they seem to have plenty of supporters.
Best of luck with your choice.

I too have the TomTom 920 and have been very happy with it. The new van came fitted with a Blaupunkt system installed as standard...not impressed with it. Ended up going back to my Tom Tom. Shame because it looks pretty wired into the dash

Does anyone have a sat nav that, when you are going round a traffic island, actually keeps up with you so that you dont miss the exit.
Even my garmin nuvi isnt that good but i notices that my mates tom tom seemed a lot smoother than mine.

I like my garmin but not the after sales.
My speed camera database dissapeared last month and when asked a rep at the NEC he gave me a phone mumber that didnt exist (on a business card as well). Garmin in us just said download the free trial. Great for the uk but mine originally had europe as well. No explanation of what had happened. I will have to buy france or wherever if i want them.

I did a reveiew of mine in the revierw section if your interested.

Yes, thanks. TT920 does. TT running on an older PDA certainly did not.

Your mate's TT was smooth, but you didn't say which one it was and whether it, too, kept up.
