Hi all,

Does anyone know if you need an adaptor to use EHU on sites in Norway and Sweden? It's our first time abroad in the van so apologies if I am asking obvious questions Embarassed

I've been having a bit of difficulty finding information about this and want to make sure that we go completely prepared.

Can anyone advise?

Hello there,

YES You will need to take a European plug adapter as not all the sites will have the Euro Hook-up.

You will find a lot are quite high amperage, up-to 16amp as quite a lot especialy in Norway are open all year through very cold winters for Wintersports.

Having done the Calais to Northcap run, I would take a electrical phase checker also a reversing cable, a old style European socket also purchase some continental mains fuses they look like miniature bottles as a lot of sites have then missing as people swipe them. Don't forget to remove them when you leave. Do beware I have had my system trip out due to high voltage, at one time my Avo registered 245Volts.
Another tip to do with the water in Finland and Nth Norway the water is so soft there are no irons in the water to register on a capacitance based system. You can over fill and still register empty. Put 1 T spoon of salt in the tank prior to filling, this should cure that.

Trev, we are sailing to Haugesund and then basically we have 5 weeks in which we're planning to travel up through Norway to the far north and then back down south through Sweden. We're still planning the exact details of the trip but hopefully we should be able to see a fair amount in the time we've allowed.

Some years ago most of the hookup points on Scandinavian camp sites were of "Schuko" type. But they are gradually converting to (blue) CEE sockets. If you want to run e.g. a hair dryer in the lavatories, you still need an adaptor.

What was said about the water is true. It is so pure that if the MH's water level meter is based on conductivity measurement it registers too low. Can happen that the tank already overspills while the meter is still at 80%. Wink

In rural areas of Norway especially in the far North you may encounter a type of supply known in EU as IT. This is an OFF grid supply with an unreferenced earth. Your polarity meter will indicate OK no matter what the polarity actually is ie you can reverse your leads and it will still show the same. I encountered this in Karasjok.
