Hello Mike

Thats a long USB lead. & what do you do on a wet day?

BTW we have the E169G on the £7.50 a month. When we first had it it connected at home every time no problems. We were away for 8 weeks in total mostly in France & Germany so ddidn't use it. When we next tried it at home it wont connect and hasn't done since. Like you, we are on the edge of HSDPA. Does yours connect using any of the other providers that come up or even 2G if you do a manual search. ie vodophone 3G, T Mobile 3G also 02 3G. All of those also show 2G. Ours wont even connect on the 3G 3 when it comes up in a manual search at our daughters
I am wondering if w have a faulty dongle . The message we get when trying to register on a manual search says. Registration failed the current registered network is unknown.

The dongle automaticly connects on 3 3g hspda at our daughters 7 miles away.

Thanks

Hi

The USB extension lead is 3Mt long and using it I can push the dongle out of the rooflight to gain a bit of height... as posted somewhere else I have attached it to the TV aerial pole too..even higher. As to in the rain , well I have not used it in the rain but a poly bag cover would be OK I guess.

Just to do another check, I am using the colander enhancer to send this post.... 3G without it ...HSDPA with it ... the colander is coming with us in the van now Laughing

hello again Spykal

Can I ask if you have a contract or PAYG. If PAYG is it expensive to use.
Thanks.

Mine is on PAYG... Initial cost £49 and then £10 for 30 days or 1GB, which ever comes first. I have never managed to get anywhere near using the 1G when we are away ( I only use it when away) but if I did it is just a case of getting another £10 add on. There have been times when the 30 days has run out but we were at home so I did not start another 30 day session. One of the best things that I have discovered about PAYG is that I can buy a 30 day 1GB add on but just keep it, unused for up to 90 days, until I need to get online with the dongle... then I can activate it and a new 30 day period begins. The dongle connects to the 3 mobile website to allow this even if you have no credit. It is even possible to register a credit card with them and do the whole thing via the dongle. I prefer to just just buy an add on from a supermarket or filling station.

If I there had been a £7.50 offer before I went PAYG I would have taken that up I think. At the time the only other option was £15 and a minimum 18 month contract. As I was unsure of how good it would be and also knowing that just around the corner there will be something better, there always is with stuff like this, I went for the PAYG.

In the winter there will be times when for weeks at a time I will not need it so PAYG may still work out cheaper.

You can now get the dongles for £39.99 from the likes of play.com with free delivery. This is where I bought mine from, then stuck a tenner on it.It seems to take a long time to get through,I`ll never use it up before the 30 days is up.I wish they would do a five pound add on as this would be plenty for a couple of weeks away for me.

Ok, Ok, ....... two fivers Laughing

If you ever manage to get to a spot where the mast is only a few hundred yards away you will be surprised how fast it will work... I have a few times now... it was impressive.

Hi

I am using a Three E169G dongle at the CCC Conkers site near Burton on Trent. Very high speed indeed.

If you are considering using the 3 dongle in France beware....
it can cost you a fortune, the charges are based on the amount of data downloaded this includes hidden downloads ie automatic updates,

so make sure you turn off all updates or you will get a very nasty shock on your next statement as I did, not told the other half she will give me so much grief,,,, oh dear Sad
