Hi,
I have just picked up and driven home my new motorhome but have found i missed a small cut in the drivers seatbelt when inspecting it so I now need to get it replaced. I bought it privately so its up to me to fix.
My question is in 2 parts. Can I do this myself and if so how can I get a new belt and where can I find out ho to do it? Or is it best to get it done by a garage? If so can any do it and does anyone have an idea how much it will cost? The van is a compass drifter on a peugeot chassis.
Thanks in advance.

Richard

Well first of all - from my experience as a MOT tester (retired) you were not allowed any tears, fraying etc. on a seat belt so you are right it has to be replaced. You should be able to obtain replacements from your Peugeot garage. It is pretty easy to replace them if you are mechanically minded and I'm not aware of any law/regulation that says you can't. However if in any doubt then book it in to your local dealer. If you do decide to do it yourself then make sure the bolts are correctly torque loaded (and not twisted)

You don't say what year, but if it's got air bags and pre tensioners, then I'd pay the extra and get a Pug dealer to do it. Don't mess with belts, they only need to go wrong once. If it's an old van with no tensioners or bags, then you could DIY. Get the genuine thing and have a word with a friendly dealer. H
