Hello Everyone.After reading other members satellite experiences, I finally decide to take the plunge and bought a Camos 30cm static dome system. I consider this to suit my needs perfectly as I dont go abroad in my van so dont need the extra reception(plus I got the new system for £1100).
Anyway, after being assured by the salesman that it was extremely easy to fit, I decided to have a go. 2 1/2 hours later and I was watching Sky tv on my driveway. Please believe me, I do not consider myself to be a competent person regarding any form of DIY ( The hole in my bedroom wall done while putting up a curtain pole is evidence of this!) but I was amazed at how easy it was. The picture quality is excellent and there is no danger of the dish catching the wind and straining the brackets etc. So I would just like to thank you all for sharing your experiences and helping a new member in the process.
Next job, fit two swivel seats(after watching the youtube vid on here of course!)

Could I enquire which company you purchased from, sounds a very good price although I would be buying the 40 cm. dish if anything.

Also, did you stick the dome on the roof or screw down as well, I have read the Camos manual and it suggests that sticking the unit in place is sufficient however some people believe it should be screwed down as well for added security. I would prefer to drill as few holes as possible in my M.H. roof.

Finally, did you use the optional, extra mounting plates which are suggested for possible removal if this should ever be required ?

I have been contemplating the Camos dome for some time as like yourself I only require coverage for UK & Ireland, the totally enclosed aspect appeals to me and I certainly would have no problem with the "blister" on the roof.

Hello Derek,
I bought the Camos from Roadpro in Daventry, the guy there was very helpful and informative. I did not go for the fitting kit for the same reasons as yourself and was also sceptical regarding the adhesive. After following the fitting instructions properly and waiting 24 hours i couldn't believe how solid the dome was held in place. There is absolutely no reason to use the fitting kit in my opinion. 36 hours after fitting the dome we were off to Scotland for a few days and after stopping at virtually every service station on the way up to check the dome (no movement whatsoever), I can honestly say that the adhesive method of fitting is all anyone would ever need. I agree with you on the 40cm version as this was only an extra £50, though was out of stock when I needed it. I was told and believe that there is no difference in performance between the two in the uk and Ireland but for the extra cost involved I would have had the 40 cm dome. Your last point regarding the removal of the dish can be overcome with cheesewire to unstick the dome from the roof and then we were going to get a cheap topbox to cover the area prior to the sale of our van.

As well as the adhesive I placed four stainless screws inside. I read about thieves using the cheesewire method to steal the Camos so the screws would make it a bit more difficult. I also drilled a drain hole in case of condensate building up inside the dome. Does anyone feel that is needed?

I went for the 30cm as I felt that the 40 would look a bit clumsy on the Twin.

hi,just regarding the price you said you paid for your camos,i have just looked at Roadpro's website and the price on there is £1249.99,did you haggle with them over the price? i have been looking at the different systems and was wondering if you looked at and considered the Tracvision model that conrad-anderson sell ? if so was there any particular reason you chose the camos ? thanks Steve

Many thanks for the reply and the very useful information.

My understanding of the additional mounting brackets is that they are stuck to the roof and the Camos doom attaches to them by S/S. screws.
I assume that if the unit was removed for another vehicle etc. then you have to be willing to just leave the mounting plates behind. Another added benefit I suppose would be the greater contact area for the compound to the roof as opposed to the area of the feet with direct mounting.

I have had a query answered by Andy the MD of RoadPro in connection with my Camos enquiry he was certainly very helpful and knowledgeable.

Hello all,
I always haggle when buying such an expensive item, with everyone being in such a state about the economy at the moment, these things are not walking off the shelves right now. looking around the campsites and talking to other satellite owners, the camos system was by far the most popular in the dome style so I was not aware of the other system mentioned. Good point regarding thieves cutting the dome off. I store my van at home in a very secure location so I think I will take my chances but I can see this may be an issue for many owners.

Good for you.

Be nice if you could keep is informed of your findings of the systems and let us all have some feedback.

IE how many times you end up in trees with now signal, the times you get signal when us Maxview Crankup viewers cannot (extreme winds). The times when the signal is affected by rain and anything else you find.
If you do go abroad, you can always update the satelite database here on the forum.

As I mentioned in the previous post I too have the 40cm Camos. With regard to the fitting brackets, they are basically two legnths of melamine with the holes tapped for attaching the Camos.

I was advised to fit them when I had the system installed in my Sundance. Just as well as I did'nt realise at the time i would only keep it for 6 months.

On changing the van I purchased a new set of plates and the dealer changed over leaving the original brackets/plates on the Sunadance.

Can't talk highly enough about the system. I have had no issues with it in both UK and Europe.

We woke up on Easter Sunday on the Bury CC site to around 6 inches of snow. The Camos as well covered but continued to operate.

Only once did it fail and that was for a few minuite during a thunder and lightening storm.
