Seat Belts for kids Forums

I would like to know what the trend is. Our new, year 2000, only has two seat belts at the table area. I think they were not required for rear facing seats when it was built. Is sitting in those seats facing the rear with no belts condsidered safe? If so might not any similar postion say leaning up against the wall of a bed facing backwards also be acceptable. What about riding in the overcab bed. What about sleeping. What do others do, is there a different level of risk compared to a car?

If you read your insurance it will have words to the effect that passengers can only be carried in seats constructed or adapted to do so. Rear facing seats do not come under this category. Does your insurance state the number of passengers?

We had lap belts fitted to our rear facing seats. You can't just fit belts any old way. They have to be anchored correctly with a sub-frame fitted under the seat. This was done for us at Towtal in Stoke at a cost of £125 inc vat, for both belts. This involved a 120 mile round trip but it was worth it. They were very efficient, clean and the job was completed in about 2-3 hours.

As to regards the safety aspect. There are several recent posts on this forum, covering seat belts, children in MHs and using a table whilst traveling. Using the search feature will bring up a lot of information for you to peruse.

I should have thought to just do a search. The law seems clear as does the attitude of people, everyone should be belted in.

Taking my kids to school this morning I asked my daughter if there were seat belts in the busses she sometimes rides in at school. Only in the very front and rear seats she said, do they ever tell you to put them on I asked, no she said.

So I still wonder, people traveling at night for example, tired kids, having to sit belted in at seats that don't recline, are you giving in and letting them sleep somewhere else, one of the beds for example.

As I understand it all buses built after a certain time had to have seat belts fitted if used for school trips. This may be why there seem to be some really old coaches in use as school buses, no seat belts required. When I worked at a special school the invariable rule in their minibus was you WILL wear your seat belt

I know I always reply to this issue saying never take a chance with anybody travelling in car/MH whatever.

You can't get them back (kids) once they are dead.
