Wasn't sure where to post this
We are considering A MH that has webasto diesel heating - sounds like a good idea as we will be using the van year round, often wild camping so running diesel heating should be cheaper than gas but would value any advice /comments. Is this system noisier, more troublesome than the standard truma gas blown air?
thanks
Chris

Hi
Had Webasto diesel heating in our Tribute, and used it in February.
My view-appeared to be very economical and certainly very convenient.
Can be used at any time i.e. vehicle in motion, at rest, engine running or not.
I did find it a bit on the noisy side, especially on the one very cold night when I left it on right through.
Overall I am a bit sorry that the new van does not have diesel heating as it is certainly effective.

Don't know about Webasto but our Starblazer had Eberspacher diesel heating.
Advantages - (1)No worries about running out of LPG(2)Can be used while going along.
Disadvantages - (1) Tends to be rather noisy (outside more than inside) (2) very hungry on battery power when not on EHU.
Bye the way - welcome to MHF

We have an Airtop Diesel heater in our van and I think I can recommend it overall.
It can certainly warm up our small van, even when it's freezing outside.
We don't leave it on at night as we've found we keep warm enough in our sleeping bags without it and the fan might disturb a light sleeper. I just reach out and twist the thermostat and then leave it 5 or 10 minutes by which time it's comfortable enough to get out and put the kettle on.
We occasionally get the problem that it'll go through it's start up cycle but not produce any heat and the stat light will flash. Normally in those circumstances I just switch the stat off for a short while and then switch on again and it works perfectly. I think we've probably got a female version.

Hi,
I have one in my motor home and it is very efficient. It is noisy initially on start-up but then the noise is reduced.
A silencer can be fitted , but I tried here in Spain to have this done ,unfortunately there was no room in the small exhaust pipe run to fit it.
I also found that if the battery does not have a good charge it will not fire up.

We have webasto diesel heating in our Tribute. We've found that it does heat the van up very quickly. A warm van easily compensates for it being a little noisy when it initially starts up!
We've not had it on whilst sleeping yet. Last year, we purchased a small oil filled radiator that we intend to use while on hook up during the night if it is particularly cold. Haven't used it yet though, we haven't had chance to go off in the van for a while.
Would definately recommend.

Yes I would add that it's really only noisy on start up as it seems to run the fan very fast when it initially fires up, possibly to get the van up to temperature quickly.
Then it slows down to 'cruisin' speed and that is quite quiet, certainly no noisier than a normal modern electric fan heater and because it is thermostatically controlled the fan will free wheel shifting the air with no heat being added until the stat calls for more heat.
I understandyou can link it to a digital thermostat and set an actual temperature. Ours is just a twist knob and you have to guess what temperature you're setting it at.
