Last year, after being in Italy for three and a half months, I travelled to Eperlecques to join fellow MHF'ers at the France Rally. I was mising certain British foodstuffs, and so an order of Nescafe instant, Walls sausages and several cans of Heinz Beans were delivered.
Well the Heinz Beans.....Mandyanddave clearly had an eye for a bargain and brought me 2 x 4 packs.
I am just having a little clear out to make way for the wine, olive oil, pasta and so on and guess what is lurking at the back of the cupboard.....2 tins of beans. Now, beans are not something I usually buy, so I am sure these are the well travelled beans, plus they are out of date in July.
These beans have travelled from Mandyanddave's place to Calais, then on to Lake Garda and back to the UK. They "moved house" in September from one Kontiki to another and a few days later headed back to Lake Garda. A few months and a couple of thousand miles later, the beans are on the road again and once again they are in Italy.
I think I had better eat them and put them out of their misery!

My late father used to receive items from ships victuallers, they always seemed to be tins of pilchards. I used to take them in my Land Rover on expeditions, hardly ever ate them! They were used to repair the bed in the Carawgon ince in Norway. At the end of the tour we had a difficult decision to make sleep comfortably or have a meal. Luckily we found a food store and we slept that night. I think I sold the Rover with the pilchards!!
