Congrats to the other winners, I am quite surprised to have made it into the top 5 especially with this shot, as although its one of my favourites I thought it was too simple.
One of several taken at Kuekenhof, Lisse Holland. The camera was a Sony DSC P93A 1/250th at f2.5 ISO 100. From these settings I assume it was just a point and shoot and I'm fairly sure it was taken facing North. I don't appear to have cropped or straightened it. That camera is a little awkward for me to hold in portrait mode and I normally have to straighten so I reckon I got lucky. Its late April at about 1pm. Kuekenhof is great for shots of flowers not just tulips as these other low res shots show some taken with the macro setting

Wow that's made my day!
The photo was taken from the top of the steps at the Roaches. I often stagger up to the roaches with 20lbs of photographic gear on my back just before dawn to take pics and this was at the end of one of those sessions.
The best time to take landscapes is half an hour before and after the dawn when the colour of the light is at its richest. This was taken just after this period when I was on my way down and spotted this cloud.
I used a tripod to steady my Nikon D200 with a wide angle lens. The white balance was set slightly warm to enhance the colour ISO 100. I also used a graduated neutral density filter to balance the light from the sky with that coming from the ground.
Saturation was increased in photosop and as ever with the D200 the pic was slightly sharpened.
Thanks again for giving me first slot it makes all the effort of walking up them hills worth while, though some would argue that the pleasure of being there and seeing such wonders is the real reward.

congratulations too all the winners, as usual some great pic's but i do like this one taken by Frank (sallytrafic) DSC01062.jpg a lovely scene of tranqility and colour.
Some great pictures and well deserved placings, i think my picture enhancing skills need improving somewhat though
These photographs are wonderful - I couldn't believe it when I saw one of mine! Congratulations to all the other winners!
We were visiting Malham Cove last September and as we were approaching the face, I saw a lovely opportunity to take this picture. Mind you, I had to spend quite some time standing in the stream to frame the shot nicely and wait for the school party that was there to move out of the shot (it turns out my walking boots really are waterproof!)
I took this using our old standby, a Canon A80 - 1/60 sec, F5.6, ISO 100. (We upgraded to an SLR last year, so am very excited about trying this out.) Other than a small amount of cropping, I didn't do any manipulation in Photoshop. I think I was lucky in that the quality of light on that particular day was quite good and seemed to bring out the colours.
Thanks especially to the judges who have given their time to this competition.
