Yesterday we mooched round Brownhills for the first time ever.

I couldn't work out why a 6 strong huddle of Brownhills men were hanging around just by the security gate hut. They were laughing and joking amongst themselves and making desultory attempts to engage the punters in conversation. Most of the potential customers shunned their half hearted bonhomie.

When we 'ran the gauntlet' we got a riposte from one of the salesmen 'let us know when you find the right van and we'll be pleased to take your money!' This was met by gales of laughter from his colleagues. That little remark shows their motivation and probably the whole philosophy of the Brownhills sales management.

I'm sorry but I wouldn't reward such a rip off philosophy by giving a company any of my business that views customers that way. If he'd said 'let us know when you find the right van and we'll be pleased to help you' or similar I'd have gained a much better impression.

In my view they just want your cash and couldn't care less about service. That will presumably extend to all parts of the business, therefore I'm happy to look at their place but I won't buy.

Sometimes salesmen destroy sales before they've even started by their unspoken attitude or behaviour or an unthinking comment.

Could not agree more.
It is amazing what impression a customer gets from the first view of or contact with the sales team of any organisation.

Quite agree, Andy.

We make a point of not buying anything from rude, pushy or disrespectful salesmen. It's their loss. We bought our last 2 (and only 2 vans) from Campbells, where the salemen were respectful, helpful, courteous, and knowledgable. We went back after our 1st purchase for this very reason. I wonder how many 2nd time buyers return to Brownhills. Very few, I would think.

When we were toying with buying our first van we also took a trip to Brownhills, only to be shuned when I said I have a budget of 20K. seems to me that the more money you have the more interest they show,
needless to say we bought from elsewhere.

Greetings,

Our first visit to Brownhills was very intimidating, we asked what they had in the way of a motorhome with a layout that we would have liked and also the price range and was told to "look around for yourself we're busy"

I approached another salesman later with some questions and was told "you could not afford to buy the van you want" hmmmmmmmm, maybe we must have looked like down and outs.

This left us in despair so we finally bought our first van from another dealer.

But our choice the second time took us back only because Brownhills had the exact van that we wanted and at a fair price...................

........... the rest you can say is history!

we bought our van 2 years ago when brownhills had decent salesmen since then most have have left for other employment. the rest i heard have been sacked and all replaced with car salesmen, no good different market, different type of customer ( mostly spending their own hard earned cash) not their company allowance. all the salesmen are vultures.

Thinking further I don't know if you noticed the psychological intimidation in the indoor showroom area.

Again there's a gauntlet of Brownhill's 'vultures' to run just to get in the door plus a row of identikit Hymer eurovans (sorry any eurovan owners Embarassed) positioned across the entrance of the hall virtually forcing the punter to the left and up the only open corridor between vans.

Once inside you find that most ways you turn there's the back ends of the closely parked row of Hymers blocking you way out. I bet quite a few people spend longer than they want in there because the exit looks intimidating pschologically.

Think how much nicer the experience would be if the hall opened out from the exit in wide sweeps of vans. But no these people are out to squeeze the money out of as many people as possible and if inducing a little subliminal fear helps swing a few sales to gullible people they'll do it.

Andy
