We were thinking of getting a cafetiere for the van as we were both missing fresh coffee. As a glass cafetiere is quite fragile, I spent some time looking around for something a little more robust.

I came across these

- it's an insulated mug that has an integral plunger. You just put your coffee in, leave for 3-4 mins, push the plunger and the add milk/sugar. The fact that it is insulated, it keeps your coffee hotter for longer. You can also use them as regular mugs, just remove the plunger.

Been testing them this weekend and they are great. Need to stop drinking coffee now though before I get a huge caffeine high! Very Happy

Thanks, Stimpy.

Those are very interesting, as I love fresh (proper) coffee, but don't consider it worth taking the glass cafetiere along for the ride.

All I've got to do now is to find a 12V bean grinder, or maybe by a hand grinder Confused

machine for coffee, the only problem is you need a 1200W + inverter to power it (or hook-up) my back up is hob based aluminium machine (name escapes me for the mo)... but it's not very nice once you had the nespresso!

Hi Stimpy

Thanks for that link ...we like our real coffee too ...in fact I know that there are a few other real coffee fans on the site too. We have discussed "the best way to make a good cup of coffee in the van" before on here. I shall prob get a couple of those mugs ... but we have so many different coffee making devices I really should Ebay some of the ones we never use.

Our favourite in the van is a simple pour on filter ... not because it makes the "best" coffee but because the cleaning up is easier afterwards ...coffee grounds are a pain to deal with in the van...the filter makes it much easier, just wrap it up and throw in the bin. If you want to read one of the other "coffee" threads

There is one available in America Gerald. It also has a liquidiser attachment, but I know nothing at all about it.

I happenned to notice it when looking for a new grinder for home, but can't find it again just now.

The other alternative is to grind a lot of coffee and keep it well sealed - or buy the ready ground stuff, which is never as nice.

Cheers

Laughing Don't worry, Dave. I'm just about winning the 'justification for solar panels' debate at home now, but suggesting we buy a 12V coffee grinder might just kibosh the whole deal.

Incidentally -

I'll probably get a small hand grinder - a bit like the one underneath?

Very Happy

from Wiki

kibosh
'To put the kibosh on' is to do for something, finish it off, or simply to end it or terminate it. The OED says the origin is obscure and possibly Arabic or Yiddish, but it may be from the Irish an cháip bháis, 'the cap of death' [2] or cabáiste, cabbage [3].

This one looks pretty good. The van may be a bit cramped, though.

Perhaps Stimpy's idea may be more useable after all.
