Hi

Following my recent disaster the the frozen mash, I thought I'd dabble with frozen chips.

I think ASDA's extra special, frozen chunky chips may well take some beating. Delicious. I do throw a spoonful of olive oil over them though, along with a good sprinkling of rosemary.

Costco do some southern coated fries and they are really lovely and do nicely in the van!

Bag is massive so have to split and put in van freezer but worth it!

I love chips apart from those dry fluffy ones made by McCains think they are beefeater ones haven't seen them for ages so perhaps they've stopped making them.

I bought the other day a deep fat fryer from Currys as I wanted to have chips that are crinkle cut but whole slices of potato i.e. round but crinkle cut. (I think I explained that succintly Rolling Eyes ) The day came and I cooked three lumps of haddock in the batter mix from that famous fish and chip shop - so famous I cannot remember the name and chucked the chips in using the recommended Crisp and Dry. By the time I finished cooking, I and the missus felt absolutely sick from the smell of this crisp and dry and so the deep fat fryer is going. I can't cope with the hassle.

So I am now buying skate wings and having them with mash and a fresh vegatable, runner beans, which is very tasty. I tried frying them in a pan and they were lovely. I tried poaching them in a vegatable stock and they were not so lovely and previousl and my favourite is to poach them in milk and slices of boiled egg, pepper and something else which I cannot remember.
