Have just received an e-mail from Microsoft telling me to change to Windows Live Mail as Outlook Express is finishing in June because of the DAV protocol. Assume windows live mail is OK?

I use it, since I have the Wink very wonderful, no problem easy to use, doesn't make me want to pull my hair out vista
It was free to use for me, and seems ok on the basic functions.
Mind you, I couldn't be bothered delve too deeply into the product. You will prolly need to register and stuff, then you get loads of spam.....sorry highly informative information in the form of emails from Microsoft every week, Needless to say, theres an upgrade sort of level, but, hey, who cares?

Isn't Live mail what Hotmail used to be?

I'm sure I've 'converted' my Hotmail to Livemail.

Incidentally, I've read through the DAV FAQs

Confused It's got lots of big words in it Sad

The only thing I can understand (I think) is that it's going to replace FTP, which has got to be a good thing. Very Happy

I have always used "Microsoft Outlook" not "Outlook Express" and find it very good but you do have to fill in your Contacts properly.

It also has a very useful calendar to fill in your appointments / rallys etc.

Give it a try.

Never used "Live Mail"

Alec

I've not used Outlook Express since I got this computer a year ago.

I now do all my mail through the ISP (BT) which holds all my mail and replies on their server. It doesn't matter which desktop or the laptop I use I can get at and reply to my mail.

Yes but Outlook comes with office,it is just a way of taking more money off you.Office 2007 seems to be much bigger than the previous ones as well.
It is all getting fool proof, what happened to the good old days when you had to program yourselves, hoping you had not made a mistake some where. or get the dreaded message error in line number etc.oh happy days.stretched tapes oh I could go on & on & on & on. Laughing Laughing Laughing

Several points:

The fact that Microsoft may be stopping support fot Outlook Express does not mean that you cannot carry on using it if it meets your needs.

That said, Live mail includes some new features and is free, so why not use it!

Live mail and live hotmail are not the same thing. Live hotmail is web based, live mail is a program that runs in your computer like Outlook Express. That said you can use Live mail (or for that matter outlook express) to download mails from a hotmail account.

Outlook is a more comprehensive product, with calendar, tasks, contacts etc. But it is not free, you can buy it on its own or it comes as part of Office.

Personally I use outlook.

Windows Live Mail is pretty good, but it won't send from a Yahoo free account.

It receives OK, but you can't reply using the same account.

Anyone know how to persuade it to send as well as receive????

It will be in the setup for the Yahoo account I guess, but what values and where??
