Hi, had cup of tea made with water from the gas hob kettle yesterday, yuk the kettle is not new and is a 'beehive' one, the first time we used it part of the handle melted. We have been using a flask when out for the day but did'nt bother yesterday. I Think we need to buy a new one, anybody got any suggestions, which type is best, hopefully with no tainted taste.
Thanks
Pepandspice.

We just use an ordinary caravan accessories shop kettle. We do however use filtered water and I personally think that makes a difference. Have you tried it with a bottle water?
Let me know how you go on.

I used to have a whistling kettle and it was great, but I later bought a small electric kettle. The whistler went to the car boot.
Have you tried boiling the kettle a few times, with a few drops of clear white vinegar in it? Then rinse thoroughly.

I've got an old metal whistling kettle which I use which is great and has no added taste!! It's about 10 yrs old and wouldn't score any points for cosmetics. I'm very fuzzy about the taste of my water in my coffee and would not drink it if it had a funny taste. Bought a coffee the other week at a cross country run which tasted of metal so it ended up watering the grass - think a new metal urn was to blame.
My suggestion if the vinegar doesn't work is wash it out with bicarbonate of soda and water, and boil it a few afterwards with fresh water each time.
Good Luck
Julie

Oh Julie, what a laugh! "It would not score any points for cosmetics". Very good.
My Yorkshire pudding tins fail on health and safely, basic hygiene, cosmetics - you name it.....but they make the best Yorkies ever. The tins have never seen washing up liquid.

We sometimes get a metallic taste when the kettle's not been used for a while. It doesn't happen if we remember to rinse it out before use. Try boiling a little water and throwing that away before using it again.

Hi pepandspice,
you don't say if you used water from the van or outside tap etc. If the water is from the Mh internal water tank, has it been standing a while? Presumably the kettle and water tasted ok last time you used it - if the kettle is ok (apart from the melted handle that is) it might be worth trying bottled water if only to eliminate or establish the tank water before lashing out on a new kettle. I reckon the kettle is the most important utensil in the camper so you gota get it right... right....

Hi Johnny, sorry, I should have said that we always take tap water from home with us (don't use van tap water). I'll try my evian next time.
Thanks,
Dawn.
