First of a few questions..

As many know we were collecting our Rapido and arrived back last night - complete with the promised spare wheel we had ordered - but no place to fix it. What have others done?

I also picked up in Calais a Camping Car and Le Monde magazines, in one there was a little article that Fiat were planning to bring out a fitment to allow us to fit these below the chassis, anyone know anything about it?

I would appreciate your thoughts. Ours being the 7090 has what is called the half-garage model....

Carol

I know nuffink but with the new FIat motorhome chassis I cannot believe there is enough clearance for a spare tyre. May be wrong but when I have bent down to see where all the water running out is from I noticed room there was not.

Hi Carol

Mine's the Peugeot variant and it came with the spare fitted underneath.

Not sure it's much good though because I couldn't get it out and the punctured wheel back in without rupturing myself - or worse. They are very heavy, and crawling underneath to lie in a muddy puddle is not my idea of fun.

Any chance of fitting it on the back, like many 4 x 4's do? At least you would be able to get at it if you needed to.

As an additional safeguard you could get Ultraseal installed so there is much less chance of needing the spare.

Sorry the reply is not more positive.

Cheers

Hi
On my Burstner Solano i put it in the rear locker that runs across the vehicle one problem the opening was 1" to narrow so had to cut away part of the flange to get it in.
Time is short as off to Greece Monday but there is sufficient room you need about 27" square for the wheel between the chasis near amidships I will make a stowage for same when I have the time
I bought a Pug wheel which was about half te price of the Fiat same item.

Hi

Mine's a Fiat/Swift and the spare wheel is underneath, at the rear.

Hi Carol

I'd forgotten you were going to pick it up Embarassed

We have a spare wheel under our Camping Chassis (or whatever it's called). I'll take a picture later (if I can get underneath Rolling Eyes ), but it's definitely there.

Does your 'half garage' go right across the van? Is it 'half' in height or width? If it is full width, I would think there would be enough room for it in there.

Well Fiat UK were not much help, speak to the dealer, Chelston said there's (Autotrail) seem to come with it fitted where ordered....

We have sort of solved it, and yes I appreciate that getting it out from below would be a problem (but when we have had a blow out (in the US RV) we called the breakdown service - twice in one trip....and they did it no problem.

I take your point about ultraseal as well, but we have currently stood it on its end, and bought one of those racket straps, and using the bolt positions (well ring type of things - you can tell I am not technical can't you) and gone through the holes in the hub, and back and in and out and around and it does seem secure for the moment....

I will try to find out more about the fitment beneath the chassis... I will try to scan in a picture of the bit in the magazine and attach it....

Did think that Chelston might have said, bring it down, let us look at it, all I got was well in the garage, on the back or beneath, yeah...I knew that, I wanted some advice as to how I might achieve any of them safely.

Also being the 16" wheel it is even heavier than the 15" ones. Wonder how much they are complete with a camping tyre?

Pusser we seem to ride very high, like we used to with the Hymer and airides.... so we do seem to have room beneath...

Carol

Russell did your spare come anyway, or was it an extra....if the latter what was the cost do you recall?

Hi Gerald

Well it what they call a half-garage - opens both side, one larger door than the other, larger on our offside of course.

We have temporarily bought one of those rachet thingies, and put it upright in the centre and fixed it there, but would much prefer it beneath if possible.

I may contact Swift then and ask them as Russell's is a Swift and they may have an afterfit bit... anything is worth trying.

Carol
