I bought a new Chausson last September to replace my Winnebago. I use my motor home to trailer my race car to meetings around the UK. My best friend suggested that we use it to enjoy a long weekend in July to go to Newqay without the wifes and do some cycling and fishing. I booked on line with a camp site that seemed to have some good MH pitches. I received a phone call the following morning saying "sorry we cannot accept your booking because you are not a family or a couple". Either they think we are gay or larger louts (which we are not). Does this mean I cannot have along weekennd in my new motorhome unless I decide to have kids or bring my wife with me? Advice please as we would like to enjoy the MH and a long weekend in Newquay.

Does not really matter what this forum thinks - the site can reject anyone.
Phone them and explain. Let us know how you get on and name and shame or praise depending on the outcome.
Good luck,

PS as a long term m/homer why not join - its only a tenner?

If you hadn't mentioned Newquay that's where I would have guessed. It is an extremely popular place for groups of lads and lasses to frequent.

You simply fell foul of the rule that prevents the excesses of the above happening at that site.

By analogy it reminded me of a time in the New Forest when there was a sign saying no vehicles over 3.5 tonnes or twin-axle caravans. It was soggy, so I naturally thought it was something to do with protecting the grass, but it still seemed OTT to me. Before I left I asked. The chap immediately looked apologetic and told me if I had one come on in! I still hadn't twigged and by means of explanation he said I obviously wasn't a gypsy!

Dave - based on your posting above, that makes me a gypsy on two grounds - weight and axles! Rolling Eyes (plus a pirate ship)

I can fully understand sites stating "no same sex groups" etc, just as some holiday firms do.....but two people, that's just a joke. And if it was a gay couple, who could well be married and blessed, the site in question could well get into hot water.

Ian, it was in fact Hendra Holiday Park that refused my booking. I wonder how many instances of mature adults turning up in a naerly new £30K plus motor home and "trashing" the place they have had?!? Anyway, no point in arguing with them. I will call the Newquay tourist information office and ask for some alternative suggestions, and will also try Trevelgue.

Avoid Sunnyside at Quintrell Downs that place is a zoo for youngsters, the problem with Newquay is the yob coulture that a lot of youngsters bring with them. There are quite a few that will take you just keep trying

I wouldn't do Rosecliston if you want to sleep ... you will quite possibly be the only motorhome there too - we were, as well as being the oldest by about 10 years (we are only in our 30's). The chemical disposal was out of order too, for the whole summer.

Hendra is really expensive, we preferred Monkey Tree which is further up the road from Hendra and well signposted. You are still probably looking at about £15-£17 a night though with electric but as Hendra is £20 + it is still cheaper and there were a couple of groups last time I was there.

However, the best place we stayed when we were there were the CL's. There is a little CL called Oakridge Farm which is again further on than Monkey Tree and off on a side road, probably closer to Perranporth - it has hookups etc and is about £5 a night.

We also stayed in another CL on a working dairy farm. This is more rough and ready, real farm folk with no electric but it was great. The farmers wife came banging on the door and brought real cornish cream teas round as she had been baking .. mmmmmm. Lovely. This on was around £3 a night but has since gone up a bit I think.

I'll have a think and let you know if I can remember any more.
