Hope this hasn't been "done " before is so apologies.

not my idea but something that I was told and it seems to be a great idea. Whilst away taking all the important documents, passport, drivers licence, insurance vehicle log book the list can go on. You have a theft or they get lost then it will be the devils job to sort things out, keep copies by all means but if they are in the van that got stolen then they are useless.

Solution is to ( and you only have to do it once) scan them all before you set off and e/mail the scanned document to YOURSELF. Then if the unfortunate happens you only have to get the use of a computer at a police station, embassy or even an internet cafe, to get a copy or even just retrieve details etc.
this can be done whether in the van or on a package holiday to India.
Has this been discussed ????

.... or download it all onto a memory stick and hang it on your key ring.

Good idea mate, but in most countries you need the genuine documents not just copies.

Solution Question Not sure what is the best one.

I keep ours in safe in MH but if MH gets nicked same again, useless. Keep them with you at all times Question

Q. Has anyone been challenged for genuine docs or will photocopies be ok Question

absolutely, another option, and a good one to boot. Only problem with that. is it must be password protected, or anyone could open it and reveal all, if they find it. E/mailing it means you have to use your password

But thanks for the input

What a cunning plan, nice one.

As is the later one of putting on a USB stick.

Or even in your mobile phone, assuming you have a proper mobile phone.

It can be a good idea to have your original MOT certificate with you. I have a copy in the van, and my brother had the original. Until today that is. I collected my post on Monday, including my tax disc renewal notice, and was about to go to the post office today, when I discovered I didn't have the original MOT Confused. So my brother had to post it to me. The MOT runs out next week, so I've managed to book the van in for a service and MOT tomorrow. So I'll either have the old one, or hopefully a new one tomorrow. I've had to stay here an extra night, and it's screwed up this weeks travel plans. One of the joys of fulltiming that you have to learn by experience I suppose Laughing.
