Hi,

New 2 motorhoming & my other 1/2's first question/problem!! How do I run my hairdryer? 12 volt or 240? Mains or ciggy lighter? Or inverter. Ahh does an inverter drain a lot from yr batteries? 12 to 240 volts seems to me it should.

12 volt hairdryers any good, if so which is best?

Hi

Welcome to MHF wsp. A no3 crew cut is the answer lol.

You will have to have a very low power hair dryer to use on an invertor or a very high powered inverter - I think a 1200 watt one will work.

It is a dilemma

1) do you only use hookup to get 240
2) do you use a high powered inverter and kill the batteries
3) do you use a generator and wildcamp in the middle of nowhere so you don't disturb anyone - but then it does not matter what your hair looks like lol

I think I can remember a member solving this by using a high powered inverter and then running his engine to keep the batteries charged

stew

Hi Shagpile

Welcome to the club, and wait until Pusser gets to work on your username. Laughing Laughing Laughing Laughing Laughing Laughing There's potential mirth there Embarassed Embarassed hope you have a good sense of humour.

As you are new to the game I would suggest you get a bit of experience under your belt before you go spending more of your hard-earned, so you know what sort of camping you will prefer and enjoy the most.

If you stay mainly on sites with an electric hookup you will have no problem with any of the gaffer's boudoir electronics - or any others for that matter.

On the other hand, if you find you like the freedom of wild camping, or use Aires a lot, then you are into the inverters, second batteries, solar panels etc., and will want to search for the plethora of advice on here from DABurleigh, who knows about these things.

Take it easy, or your garage will soon look like most of ours - half full of brilliant gadgets that you used once and slung out.

Hope this helps

Hi

I agree with Dave certainly wait until you decide what sort of camping you do but don't buy a 12v hairdrier they are useless. We got an inverter and bought a 470 watt travel hairdrier which works really well and doesn;t drain the batteries as much as we expected.

Very Happy Buon giorno Shagpile,
get her to wear a headscarf, like my Donna C. they can be worn in all sorts of ways to look really fashionable, ad the hair underneath doesn't really matter. 12v. hair dryers seem to be useless. We do have a Remington Rand(or it could be a Morphy Richards) folding travel hair dryer which is very good, and runs from an inverter without a problem for 10/15 mins. Can't remember the wattage though, and is not to hand as lives in the m/home.I'll be pottering down there later today so if I remember will pull out full details for you.
saluti,
eddied

The most important consideration when planning motorhoming is indeed how to dry your hair Very Happy
I take my normal hairdryer when staying on hookup and have a perfectly adequate 12v one (from Towsure) for when we are on aires etc. To save compromising the leisure batteries I have my own battery installed behind the drivers seat which I connect the dryer to with crocodile clips.

Believe me there is nothing worse than "Caravan Hair" Rolling Eyes Rolling Eyes

I only use hairdryer on EHU. When wild camping I put up with caravan hair, but do try and flatten bumps with a couple of minutes of gas straighters each morning Very Happy Very Happy

Has anyone ever tried a hose from a blown air system? Perhaps something could be made from an old vacuum hose
