and yet the government is unwilling to accept aid from western charities because it has problems with the Western countries.
Are all politicians mad?
what is wrong with these people, their own citizens are dying and suffering for the want of basics, and they bring political prejudice into the equasion.
Its beggars belief.

The primary cause I believe is that they are an illegal government and their motives have always been not to let anything happen that may impinge on their power and a democratic government put in their place. Of course it is well within the means for the West to force the country into democracy as it would Zimbabwe but the pickings for saving thousands of peoples lives is small compared with such prizes as Iraq and the must have pipe line from Russia to the Gulf in Afghanistan. The Falklands too was nothing to do with sheep nor the population of Union Flag lovers but to ensure our cut of the South Atlantic resources of which there are in a bun dance. Bosnia was too close for comfort.
But the sad thing is that with all the aid in the world, it is in such a mess there will be thousands more stomach churning stories to unfold over many years to come. It seems almost impossible to stop a major epidemic starting, impossible to get that much fresh water to that area and impossible to treat so many injuries and illnesses and that is if you could get them somewhere to treat. Whatever the true death toll is now will be less than halft of the total.
Pusser,
the charities in question dont give a flying f..dont care whose in charge, legal or otherwise, they see, now is up to 100,00 dead, more homeless and the people of the country in strife.
I really dont think the charities from the West would require a stand down of the government of Burma before they sent in aid. Clearly this is, once more a bunch of lunatics running the asylum, it is true however, that in the same way as nobody has done anything about Zimbabwe, other nations are unlikely to do much about Burma.
Its all very well the west spouting off about the sovreignty of other nations, and only if one of the prerequisites are present will we ( the " Allied nations of infinite light ) go in and oust the dark forces of oppression. f'rinstance, stragetic importance or gain financially,
but there isnt an immediate benefit to the West here. or, apparently to the east either, since neither India, nor China has expressed many views about Burma, to my knowledge. ( which is slim I admit)

I do understand that and agree. I was merely pointed out the reasons why they are so minded in the Burma Government. If this rescue attempt gets underway properly and public donations flow in I suspect the leaders days are numbered once we have a foothold which presumably will be the only good thing to come out of it.
