I have specced out a server over the last week or so that is much, much higher spec than our current primary server (We also have a server which holds the site backup)
I have submitted notice on our old server and will be migrating content over and testing over next 4 weeks
bear with me for the next 3-4 weeks with slow access speeds (Growing pains) and normal much faster speed will be restored
nice comments Ted
I obviously don't mean i am going to spend good money, then spend hours configuring a server, securing it, testing the build, migrating content etc just to get slow speed now do I
MHF goes through this sort of thing periodically i.e. our growth increases to a point whereby the server spec is upgraded as far as it can go and no more discernible increases are possible at which time I spec out a new machine, migrate content over and we start afresh, it is the same with ALL busy sites, not necessarily simple forums with marginal site facilities but full blown content management frameworks such as MHF
My comments are not meant to be malicious in any way. Please forgive me if they come across that way
However...the forum is always very slow....it is incredibly complicated....and.....we do actually pay for it.
If there are 20,000 members does this mean that we pay £200,000 per year for a slow complicated forum??
I always try to be totally factual in all my posts

Not all members are subscribers. This is a common mistake people sometimes make, assuming that Nuke is a wealthy tycoon
MHF isn't just a forum. It has a huge photos database, campsites database, rallies and meets databases (classified ads, dealer databases, etc etc etc etc).

And I don't think there will be many of them (paying members that is) slagging me off if I say it's well worth a tenner, even if it does get a bit pedestrian at times!!
Most members don't realise the exponential growth of MHF. Since the start of 2008 when the server started to bulge at the seams the number of pages served have risen so fast that it's extremely difficult to keep up with demand. In the first four months of 2008 we've nearly reached the total demand for the whole of 2006 when the server was last replaced, that's almost a three-fold increase.
