There are numerous companies about that will do an A frame fitting for you.
I used Chris Cox because he came to me, took my car away and brought it back the day after, with the relevant bits and bats fitted.
My car has been a toad, and therefore towed, for about 10,000 miles in total.

Hi i have towed a smart car on a unbraked TOWTAL A Frame, and now tow a fiat on one of their braked A Frames down to morocco for the last two winters no problems, although they say you dont need a braked one for the smart you would be better getting a braked one they also connect the lights on your car to work with the motorhome lights hence you dont need a trailer board also the price was good and the frame is neat once fitted

Chris Cox is good; we've just had one fitted to our MX5. Make sure it's braked though as the MAM (total permissable weight) of a Smart is over 750kg, the magic figure at which which any trailer in excess of this weight has to be braked. We A-framed a Smart on an unbraked A frame and it was technically illegal. Ooops

If the trailer/car has brakes they have to work regardless of weight
That is true, but I would recommend towing ANY car (Smart, Axim, etc.) on a braked A frame. Our Smart was unbraked, then we changed to a Matiz (not a lot heavier than the Smart) and the difference was very noticable. e.g. brake fade plus the obvious shorter stopping/slowing down time. We have had 1 frame from Towtal (Smart) and 2 from Chris Cox.
Both good, Chris gives a more personal service.
