Hi,
Its ages since I posted on this site. I was looking for a van to tour Europe. I found it, Thanks to a reply to my post. Thanks to Brandywine for that. They/he/she put me onto Select First Motorhomes and so far everything has worked out well but as its a buy back deal I feel I need to reserve comment till all is finished.
I have a question. Has anybody had the back off a TomTom one xl. The battery on mine, only bought bout three months ago, is almost flat and refusing to charge. I suspect was sold old stock by a very large Australian company - I'll await the outcome of this episode before naming names. I am told that I have to send it to Holland and it will take approx 10 days to return. But meantime I am trying to free camp around France, and on my own. I've almost forgotten how to read a real map and I certainly don't have maps that will get me into and out of these motorhome traps (I mean Frensh cities).
Anyway, I'm at the point where I am willing to void any warranty for what little it is worth if it is just a matter of popping the back and replacing a battery.
So, anybody got a clue? |

| Have you checked that it is charging? My ONE has a green LED on the top that shows when power is applied. My lighter socket power supply failed, and it wasn't until I got a new one that worked that I realised the light was there! So it's worth checking you're getting power into it. |

The other thing would be to see if it is charging when connected to your computer via the USB. |

Thanks johnandcharlie.
I have tried the cigarette lighter, the usb from the laptop, and now that you ask, even the 240volts from the incerter. Through today I have watched the green light that I thought indicates power is being supplied fade away and a small image of a battery in red flash. Of course the problem could be a lot more than the battery ut ten days without it I would consider buying another. And the annoying thing is it would have to be a Tom Tom because I have spent the money on Tom Tom maps. |

But does the TT continue to work when it is plugged into the dash? What I am getting at is that if you can carry on using it 'plugged in' it would suggest that the 'brain' of the thing is ok but there is something wrong with the battery. The other thing is that I have noticed about my TT1 is that if it is switched on the power used takes up a lot of the power coming in to it if you see what I mean. Have you tried charging it for a long period with it switched off? I've probably got the wrong end of the stick |

Thanks for the posts all,
My apologies for all the typos in the last post from me.
The cigarette lighter has an an indicator light which is on. Other things are getting power from the lighter socket. I am pretty sure that power supply is not the problem. Earlier today it was still working with the help of power from laptop or cigarette lighter but now it can't even hold a straight thought in its head. It keeps rebooting and its voice is fading. The green indicator light on the TT used to be bright and strong. Plugged into the laptop there is the faintest glow and when plugged into the others no light at all.
Thanks for your suggestions.
