Just wanted to let you all know that if you are looking for a motorhome drive away awning you will not go wrong if you order from this company Somerset Camping www.somersetcamping.co.uk/
Firstly, I ordered the Khyam Motordome Drive Away Awning Excelsior from them on Tues and it arrived Weds and after I had a really good look around I fond them to be the cheapest on the net and they also include FREE next day delivery too. You can order and pay via their website but I prefer to order over the phone if possible. The young man who dealt with my telephone order was so friendly and helpful and really could not do enough to assist me and he explained in great detail what we needed in order for us to fix the motordome to our wind out Omnsitor awning. He explained we would need something called a safari gusset which is a double beaded kador rail but one side is slightly thinner so that it slides into the C channel of both the Omnistor or Fiamma wind out awnings. The standard kador rail is the same size beading either side apparantley and therefore does not fit into the C Channel of the Omnistor and Fiamma Awning quite so easily and so the best kador rail for the job is the safari gusset.
Anyway, our Khyam motordome drive away awning arrived yesterday and my husband had a quick trial run with it in the garden and to fully erect it and take it back down aqain took him 20 mins in total. Admittedly that was without all the pegging down but not bad for a first attempt and a hell of a lot quicker than our current drive away awning thats for sure.
We are well impressed with both the product and the company we bought it from and if anyone is looking for a drive away awning take a look at Somerset Camping as I can highly recommend them and they have quite a selection to choose from too.
Sue

hi sue
we live in devon and have bought off them and yes they are very reliable and offer great service
just wonder if you could give me some info on the motordome
i have been looking for a safari residence but not having much luck
saw your thread about the motordome and gave them a call
looks like other people from mhf have been buying as they are now out of stock !!!!
not sure how to fix to our motorhome, we have a hymer with an omnistor wind out awning do you buy the gusset to slide onto the awning but what about the sides are there poles that go alongside the van or do you have to put a channel down each side
the height of our awning is 2.6 mtrs and the door is about 1ocms below that will i have problems with door opening etc
hope you can make sense of my rambling
cheers

Hi, just want to say 20 mins is good for a first attempt but I guarentee with a bit more practise hubby will have it down to 10 miins.....
We've got one and they are the dogs danglies....only prob I've found is they do take up a good bit of storage space...which in our case ends up being the shower! as our underneath storage on the Cheyenne is not as good as when we had a Hobby....but hey its a minor problem.
If pegged down probably will stand up in most winds too...can't say tha about many awnings..
Have fun....

Will try Drew, but I'm probably a bit simple about these matters.
After erecting said Dome :-
As Sue said, you slide the gusset into the channel on the front of your wind out awning (you have to wind it out to do this!) its the same channel you would thread the front of your safari room into.
You then attach this to the part of the dome that will cover your m/h door area and then gently wind the awning back in, this raises the side of the dome.
We fasten off the sides around the front wheel and then peg the other side, although I'm sure someone doing a more 'professional' job would find a better way.....
One of the other memebrs on here told me how to go on and sent a piccie, I'll see if I can find it and post....
Its a lot easier than it sounds believe me!

I see Bouncer has and carolgavin have replied to your post asking for advice on fitting this awning and as we are still newbies to it all I don't think I can add anymore advice at the moment as we still have to practice it a bit more yet.
Sorry to hear they have sold out and I do know when I first enquired on Monday they had 3 in stock and then when I came to order mine on the Tuesday it was the last one so I was lucky wasn't I but sadly you will have to wait for more supplies to come into stock now. Did they indicate how long this would be? I know greenasthegrass, a fellow MHF member ordered one after I had pm'd him about this company. So it just goes to show the power of this forum doesn't it?
Good luck.
Sue
