Hi time is approaching when we will finally be getting our MH. I have bought all of our cars for the last 30yrs secondhand from motor auction houses (were the dealers get them from) and saved many thousands of pounds.

Motorhome dealers must have the same sort of network. Anyone know where? I have heard that Measham hold caravan sales ocassionally that include MHs but they seem limited.

Appreciate any info Dick

The only auction house I know that would be big enough to have a dedicated motorhome sale would be BCA. I've never seen one advertised on their website, and if truthful, have only seen one or two on the odd auction, and they've been right sheds.

Having said that the motorhomes keep their value so well and I have seen Dealers advertising 18-20 year old M/H on their forecourts, so maybe they just keep going until they are only found on private sales.

(Which, in case someone should take umbrage at that, isnt meant to say the aforementioned old/privately sold/cheap motorhomes are in any way inferior in quality or social status amongst motorhome owners.)

as you say bca at measham used to do them a few years back and as far as i am aware they still do. it used to be every last friday of the month but you would need to check. we had a glance round once or twice but alot of them seemed to be fairly old and needed some work doing, occasionally you would get a new one and they would go for a reasonable price

Thanks all but I have seen this one. They used to post catalogues on line but the MHs were few and looked pretty old. I was looking for where dealers exchange at trade prices and finance houses off load their repocessions. I know it is a harsh thought but I would rather I (or you) benefited from the premium (many thousands of pounds) rather than a dealer for tacking on a sometimes dubious warranty.

Some years ago the car trade kept such auctions from the public. Is this still the case with MH dealers (they seem to have the magazines in thrall) or are there no repo's? I find this hard to believe looking at the seductive ads for credit at places such as Brownhills that revert to a punitive rate of interest after the introductory offer period runs out. As I say I would not want to benefit from someone losing out but if it is a choice between me and a dealer!

Dick

Theres alot of complicated stuff about the selling og a repo ...anything really...I think, and this may be a bit out of date, but worth a punt anyway, ( as long as nobody takes it seriously without researching it first because of the potential repercussions Rolling Eyes )

anyhoo, it may have used to have been that the company/person who held title on the thing, could on default, reposess the thing, and could then sell it. But, depending on the amount of finance left on the vehicle, they could sell it, and regain the

amount owing
the cost of reposession
the cost of sale.

now, depending on how cloe to the truth that is, it maybe that most repo'd motorhomes go to dealers. They sell motorhomes from what 8K to well ,
skies the limit.

I've been to several of the Measham auctions and I wouldn't advise you to bother unless you're very street-wise, competent to assess the offerings and can afford to take a gamble without getting upset if it all goes pear-shaped. There are usually a number of repossessions offered, mostly from Black Horse Finance. From my experience they're usually in poor to appalling condition and the reserves on them are unrealistic.

A good (dealer) friend of mine attends every sale and very occasionally picks up a decent buy - but they're few and far between. Mostly they seem to be bought by private individuals who pay far too much for them.
