I've got a 10mm J-rail fitted to the 'van. See attached pictures (no I'm not going to add them to the photo comp )
I would much prefer a drive away rather then a Fiamma style thing so what sort of fitting do I need? Or is there a method of attaching an awning without using the j-rail?

Hi Ginge, The J rail is used for attaching a drive away awning which is supplied normally with 2 x figure of eight shaped plastic extrusions. These are threaded onto the beaded edge of a flap of material which bridges the gap between the van & the awning & simply hooks onto the J rail. To drive away simply unhook from the J rail & drive away, Steve

Our son used to have a VW Camper with pop-up roof. He had a drive away awning which used the J-rail. He simply closed the awning, unhooked from the rail and drove away.
I have used several different drive-away awnings which attach to the J-rail
on my VW Autosleeper. As Sergeant has said the plastic figure of 8 extrusions are one method, but I have found these unreliable in strong winds, i.e. they tend to work themselves loose from the J-rail. Another method is a long metal pole (quite thin diameter) which slides through a pocket on the awning flap and which then sits inside the J-rail and is tightened using 3 metal clamps. This is more reliable but quite fiddly to set up. Thirdly, the same metal pole method but with 3 suction clamps which I am reliably informed are almost impossible to dislodge, however the clamps are quite expensive. I bought my latest drive-away from here www.justkampers.co.uk they sell all the fittings seperately, as well as loads of other stuff for that trip away in the van. Incidently, if you Google " Royal awnings" they are quite reasonably priced for tunnel awnings. Hope this helps,
