slight overheating Forums

Is it normal for fully loaded 15 year old motor caravan to slightly over-heat when going uphill, temperature returns to right setting when on a level. Advice would be appreciated.

Yes. a rise in temp is normal. is it a fiat !then you have twin fans sould any problem arise. make sure you have correct antifreeze/coolant this keeps it cooler in summer and stops corrosion

When towing a caravan I could calibrate the temperature gauge with the gradient of the hill Smile

it could also be when under extraload i.e up hill (engine working harder)
it could have soft rad hose or hoses which in therory collapses.
a way to check this is either if able to opperate throttle and look at hoses or ask your partener to rev it up and hold no lead boots needed ere

Don't worry about it. It's like us when we are walking on the straight all well and good. Start up a hill and your soon breathing heavy and getting a sweat on (well some of us do) Surprised

And when back on level the heart rate comes down and so does the temp.

As long as the temp comes down don't worry.

As has been said, if your coolant is a few years old it could be time for a flush out and change.
