We are planning about 8 weeks in France June & July.
We cross Eurotunnel and have a vague plan to head down toward the Med. We hope to then Head over to Carcassone and back up the West Coast. The West coast bit we are more or less ok with as we are meeting some friends near Quiberon in early July for two weeks and plan a week Near Dinard on the way back.
Any tips between Calais and South and en route to Carcassone would be appreciated, Good Camp sites etc.
Calais to the south is terra incognita for us any advice appreciated.
Brendan

Buy or borrow a copy of Susie Kelly's excellent and very readable book A Perfect Circle.

Susie, plus husband and 2 idiot dogs go off in a motorhome round the outside of France. Brilliant descriptions of places and people as well as snippets about sites they stayed on etc. This will give you lots of ideas.

Published by Bantam Books for £7.99 and available from Amazon or any book shop.

Hi Brendan,

We had a thoroughly enjoyable time doing this about 18 months ago but we only had about half the time that you've got, so we got a bit rushed towards the end Sad

We went from Calais towards Strasbourg. We stopped in at a site in Obernai which was within walking distance of the town - very enjoyable. Then did a rather quick tour of Strasbourg before setting off on our journey south via the Rue Napoleon. This afforded wonderful views & scenery all the way down south.

Because of time constraints (& the fact that we'd already been there) we skipped Monaco, Nice, Antibe & Cannes & headed straight for Aix-en-Provence & Arles. Wonderful places full of Roman antiquities, restaurants & bars (not neccessarily visited in that order).

From here we moved across to the Perpignan area - Coulliere is a must, especially of an evening. We spent the weekend in Spain, Roses, & then started heading home via Carcassone.

Me, the missus & our two dogs - wonderful - if only we had more time.

As for tips - join France Passion - free camping & the chance to meet wonderful people. Use proper camp sites occasionally when you need access to services.

Enjoy

G.
