Hello all
Just joined having read some posts when researching for my 1st Motorhome. Very Happy

It's taken me a month to find one, and did the deal yesterday..really looking forward to it.

My problem which i'm desparatly in need of your help, is the insurance for it.
I have been planning to stay in it 3-4 nights a week while working away and then use it a lot of weekends with my family.
I'm told by some insurance companies that it needs to be locked up when i'm not in it ( secure location rather than locking the doors Smile) and leaving it on a secure campsite does not count. Shocked

What am i going to do, it could be that i'm not able to complete the transaction in a few weeks as I have no way of getting it insured for those peiods when i'm not in it...

What do you think?

Many Thanks

Google motorhome insurance

Caravan club
NFU
Camping and Caravan Club
Adrian Flux
Comfort
Safeguard
Sureterm
Caravan Guard

etc etc.

They will all want to know where it will usually be kept. You will have to give them a base post code. Specialist motorhome insurers know that the
motorhome may not always be where it is usually kept.

And SAGA - Yes, the old fart people. But they insured me when absolutely no-one else would. Covered for stuff on and outside the van too.

I have taken out Class 1 Business Motorhome insurance with NFU mutual through the Louth office - speak to Helen on 01507 600249

when they gave me my quotes it had a £zero excess so I got it cheaper when I asked for a voluntary excess to be added

No breakdown cover included with the insurance
(but if you join the Camping & Caravan club & the RAC , then the RAC will cover your motorhome regardless of size you just need to ring the RAC to tell them to update your membership)

(I used to be with Safeguard and insured as a mobile office to allow me to sleep in it but they have stopped this now)

That's pretty good odds after only 53 minutes and at nearly midnight.

Go on line and enter "Motorhome insurance" in the little box. Google is your friend. Make it happen. Troll the internet.

See 2) above.

It's not looking promising on getting insurance cover for the times when my MH will be sat on campsite unattended.
I was hoping to use it when at work and leave it at the same venue at weekends...

No one we have spoken to will cover it unless it has a permanent home, which clealy no campsite in the woking area is willing to do.

Anyone got any ideas how it could be resolved.

TIA
