Which reminds me. I hae long lobbied for an MHF Wiki, believing that it is the next big thing (well, apart from an offline MHF campsite database that I lobbied for a year ago, too ....)

When I last nagged, nuke told me the ball was in Gerald's court as he had undertaken to do the next Wiki step.

What's the latest?

I've been working on it. A bit. Embarassed

In truth, I don't find it that easy to use, and I think there are issues with access (as there are with most wikis).

I'll PM you with the details, for your feedback. I won't post them here, because we (I) need to get the structure is set up before people start contributing.

With a wiki structure is everything

You have to allow a great many people to add stuff and there is inevitable duplication and misinformation so after structure comes policing.

If you have written a really basic beginners topic and it gets out of date the only people who tend to read it it are beginners and they don't know its outdated/wrong.

As far as I'm concerned, anything and everything that helps people to help themselves by definition has to be good.

Learned helplessness bad; the path eased to find out themselves, good.

Hi Cabby

Perhaps the best known wiki is

Think of it as an online encyclopaedia, that anyone can edit. It's part of the 'sharing, user-generated content' world we live in.

The idea is that MHF has a wiki, so that 'standard' answers to 'standard' problems can be added to the database.

Hi Gerald, thanks for that, coffee is now being consumed and am gradually getting up to speed. surely if we use that system it will detract from the type of forum that we are now that adds humour and personal touches that make it so appealing. does it really matter that posts are repeated.

I find it an intriguing hypothesis that by preventing access to reference material social discourse is somehow enhanced.

My personal experience is that the reverse is true.
