Has anyone else seen the "interchange" in June 2008 MMM (page 216), referring to problems of using autogas on Dometiq fridges? Dometiq is blaming the use of autogas on the failure of a fridge (blocked jet). It is apparently rumoured there is more oil in autogas than in bottled gas (but why should there be any oil at all?)
Comments welcomed - but we've had no problems after a year of Gaslow |

Hi Andy,
No problems after using auto gas for nearly five years with our fridge. It ran for four years before fridge was removed and serviced.

I used to work on lpg powered go-karts and did not find any traces of oil in the regulators that I had to take apart. If there was oil in the gas there would have been traces in the regulators. |

We bought our van new in Oct last year. Since then we spent 6 months touring Spain, Portugal and Morocco.
We filled up in the UK then Spain and Morocco.
Once we used Spanish Autogas we detected an exhaust smell coming from the fridge, inside and outside the van.
Dometic said "the Fridge/freezer is not designed to be used with autogas"..... stating that Spanish / Portuguese Butagaz is the problem.
......."The product is deigned to operate on bottled Propane or Butane".
We are back in 'Blighty' now and the Fridge had all but packed up working on gas. Milk went sour after a couple of days in warm weather. It was fine on 12v and 240v.
An engineer fitted a new burner a week ago, explaining that dometic have had to modify the burner after many complaints. That didn't solve our problem straight away as he thought the flue needed cleaning from sooty deposits.
A week later and a second engineer cleaned the flue...... It seems that a sooty flue cannot get rid of the heat enough to allow the fridge to operate properly.
Glad to report that the fridge is working fine now and the smell has gone and time will tell whether we have to do all of this again after winter.
While away..... we met another couple touring Morocco in a near identical van. They had set off at about the same time but had done more wild camping and by March had already had identical work carried out on their van. |
