Three lights next to the on button come on and stay on, the hard disk light flashes and then goes out and stays out. Other than the fan there is no noise and definitely no disk noise.
We had some text come up twice giving start up options, first time selected "start normally", but it didn't, and second time selected "start from last known good start", still no go.
Since then as per first paragraph.
Have been shutting down and restarting by holding the power button down during this problem.
Battery is ok and the problem is the same with the mains power supply connected.
Has anyone come across this, or have you any ideas?
Alec

Try this , no guarantees but worth a try.....Take the battery out, wait a minute or so and then replace it ...then try booting again on mains power if you have it.
Check the fan covers are not bunged up. My toshie was doing this when I took the fan covers off the processor heat sink was full of "fluff" n stuff. ergo overheating.

The lappie I am using at the moment has a blank screen if started by battery, that still happens when the battery is full.
Start on mains close lid for 30secs and then open again.
Try connnecting to another laptop or lcd with 15pin to 15pin connection, then press FN button(bottom left) and LCD/square box with an arrow pointing right button (top middle) at the same time. If unable to connect like this then try pushing buttons anyway at the same time.
Take battery out completely and start using mains only.
Start pressing F8 if other F12 does not work, you want to start in safe mode.
Do you see any graphics at all when you start up?
Steve
