Hi all

Typical - sod's law has just kicked in. We just decided last night to run over to Hunstanton for the weekend, but 4 miles out of Leicester the steering wheel sarted kicking a bit, and then a bit of a thump from underneath. I just managed to pull into a residential street when i lost all drive.

Looking under the vehicle, i can see the offside CV joint is devoid of any bits inside it and the boot has gone south.

Anyway RAC to the rescue, the RAC guy was brilliant, he just poped me on the end of his tow bar and even reveresed me in to my drive, saving me the wait for a recovery wagon.

So i'm hoping its just replacing the CV joint, and probably the other one at the same time.

Is this a big job? - I thought i might get a mobile mechanic out to it save the cost of towing or ferrying it to the garage.

Not too difficult a job at all really, any mobile mechanic should be able to do the job as long as he can raise the front of the vehicle safely up onto some stands to gain access underneath, a respectable amount of manouvreability is required by the mech to do the job, should take no more than 3-4 hrs.

Thanks for that Dave, I can get phoning tommorow and hopefully get back on the road pretty quickly.

I checked the price of the kits and they seem to be around £50, So, i'm feeling very much like "it could have been worse" and i'm glad its happened in february, and not when we have a whole week planned away.
