conserving battery power advice please Forums

Hi, next week for the first time since we started motorhoming we're going to be without ehu on a site. We need batteries to last 4-5 days.

Originally we had one 105 amp leisure battery and we have now purchased two 110's. The 105 is still okay so we may take that as back up. There's only two of us but we're not used to conserving energy!

What we need is advice on how to conserve battery power. We can be careful with lights etc. but it's things that are not so obvious (alarm, heating, fridge, etc.) that we need advice on. I remember someone posting about this before but can't find the thread. Seem to remember some advice about not putting batteries on concrete after charging?

Hi, Make sure your batts are fully charged before you go and use as little power as pos, fridge etc is on gas , and you should be O/K, we are for that time including having flat screen tele on , with the same size battery.

Hi

LED lights save a lot of power, but at this time of year it is light emough in the van til at least 8 in the evening.

Water pump uses a fair bit of power but is not running for ages, so that should not be a problem.

Other one is blown air heating - the fan is powered by 12v, but, at this time of year, fingers crossed you won't need the heating on.

I think you will be ok.

yes never stand batteries on concrete for any length of time even when charging as this kills the batteries .stand on wood etc.you could allways use a solar panel trickle charger.cheers geoff & lyn

Hi,
I imagine that with that much battery power you will do fine. We have one 85AH battery (I think!!) and we always wildcamp without EHU. We have never run the battery down, even being away for two weeks last year.We are careful (but not miserly) with lights. We switch off the water pump when we are not in the van and at night. Blown air heating is hard on the battery so we are careful in midwinter with it, but it is not a problem at this time of the year.

We don't run computer, telly etc but always manage to have a good time anyway.
