Having just imported our Ford Nugget I must say we found the whole business surprisingly easy. I would encourage anyone considering it not to worry, it's really pretty hassle free, and worth it for the saving.

We wanted a smallish 4 berth van but found that the UK offerings weren't a match for the LHD Westfalias we'd seen at Deepcar. The Transit is just that bit bigger than the VW though and the Nugget spec is high, making this the logical choice for us.

The only gamble we took was buying the van without having seen and test driven it, although we did get photos and copies of the registration documents faxed from the dealer in Germany. This saved us a preliminary trip to hunt for a van, and since we weren't part exchanging we just flew out last week and drove it back.

The dealer arranged the German registration and export plates and insurance, and we made sure we had UK insurance (using VIN no) from Safeguard that took over once we'd arrived at Harwich. We did wonder if the German export insurance covered us for bumps on the ferry but fortunately we didn't have to find out! We drove straight through UK Customs without a problem, and then on to Deepcar the next day for the headlight/speedo/fog light conversion. We visited our local DVLA office to pay for our UK registration and road license on Monday, and I've just put the plates on this morning!

We'd have no hesitation in importing our next van based on this experience.

Not familiar with this model, but hopefully not fitted with the 'marine' variety....
