forgot to say there is a guy in Stoke who does some very nice conversions. Small panel vans. However if you bought a larger van he would convert it for you. This may be a cheaper option. just a thought.

If you have £10k cash I suggest you buy privately. There are more sellers than buyers I suggest at the moment - credit crunch, diesel prices etc.

Nothing wrong with e-bay, its a good advertising medium but don't bid unseen obviously. I think most vans don't actually sell on auction but many will sell afterwards in a private deal.

Look at vans at £12 to £14k and offer them your £10k. Someone will take it!

my advice

first, are you really sure you want a motorhome.

second, go and hire one for a few days.

still interested, make sure you get one that you can use and enjoy.

as was said, what are you going to do with it. this will determine the type etc.

get a MH bigger than you think you need.

post plenty of questions on here for help. Most people on here will help you out and give you the benefit of their wisdom or lack of it.

hope this helps.

regards

Hi,
Thanks for all the replies to my questions.I will not be rushing into buying anything and will shop around until I find the right vehicle for me.Grumpyman.....we just might suprise a few of the teams up there, and certainly wont be overrawed.I.d settle for a UEFA cup place for our first season and then push on from there Wink Wink .Once again many thanks for all the replies.

Hi Stokie,

When we looked for our first M/H way back in 1995 we tried second hand too for about the £15k mark but could not find anything which we could be happy with from the condition point of view. So we upped the budget and went for the cheaper range of new ones and settled for an Eldis Wanderer I think at around 23k. It was a good choice L lounge and luton bed but it suited us perfectly and we never regretted it. With new you have the warranty, no risk of damp, and it has never been slept or smoked in but you do have to kit it out. You can get some good discounts at the moment on new if you shop around.

If you buy second hand invest in a damp meter you can get one from B&Q for about a tenner and check in cupboards at roof level especially where the roof joints are, and also more importantly the floor from underneath. Check bathroom area for signs of leakage from the shower and also the cassette box for leaks from toilet. Check around the windows for signs of leak stains etc. Repairing leaks above floor level is not too bad but if the floor has delaminated in places forget it and move on to the next!

You might have a look here:

We have had good experience with them.

Hope these few tips help.

Hi,

Only had my first MH a few months but seem yo have got it nearly right first time, things I would like but some times they don't all come in one package. Like you can't have a rear kitchen and a garage, one takes up the others space.

We went to the Motorhome show at Peterbrough. It had every make and model u could shake a stick at.

Go to the show at Lincoln on the 27th, 28th & 29th, it will be worth the trip. You will get a real feel for the types snd possabilities, if not prices.

All the best Dave. Shocked
