Just fitted a new Status 530/10 aerial and am curious to know which orientation it should be for UK analogue and UK Digital TV signals. Does it vary throughout the UK. Next trip is West of Scotland and the islands.

Johnc. It depends on whether or not you are pointing at a main transmitter or a rerbro station. The rebro's are vertical (sideways) I have had no luck whatsoever with TV in my van as I can never get a signal so now I use a Lidl mini sat for the news and take my home PVR away with me.

Hi John, we were by loch lomond last sept, and they all said no tv without satalite but I got a good pic using the same areil.I always look at houses nearby to see where they are pointing and if they are flat or on edge,a good sence of direction is required as some house'es are a good bit away Laughing

We downloaded a guide to the settings needed for TV from all the UK transmitters and this tells you whether to use vertical or horizontal polarisation.

I'll have a look for the link. It's very useful.

Here's one to be going on with. The info you want is under Aerial Group and is shown as H or V.

This is not the document I'm looking for and you'll have to download the pages for each region you want to visit but it is up to date.

Well satellite dishes and watching people setting them up provide us with many happy hours of people watching. The ones we like best are when the wife wants a programme that started 10 minutes ago and the husband can't get a signal except by standing on the top of a rickety ladder and hanging over the top of the van on one leg - keeping very still of course.

The words "Boys" and "toys" spring to mind !

John,

The only accurate guide is the one provided by Digital UK at:

Go to the postcode checker and check the box that says that you are an aerial installer. You will then see exactly what signal you will get at your location, the direction to point your aerial and whether it is horizontal (most likely) or vertical.
This is the only guide that takes into account directional transmitters, all others assume that transmitters are omnidirectional.
