You can subscribe to KeConnect directly for Ł10 / Month/ 1000 mins.

This subscription rate is considerably cheaper then buying a voucher on-site - and i think is reasonable value - if it works of course!.

The minutes can also be used @ BT Open Zones.

There are problems currently with the CC wi-fi at Folkestone - they are waiting for an additional antenna to be fitted.

At Brighton, the first thing Ke Connect new about it being off for three weeks was when i complained - the new (I guess temporary) wardens apparently did not know the site offered wi-fi!. - An additional antenna is also due to be installed there.

Ke-Connect were given a very short time frame to install the system at the agreed sites - only now are they able to re-visit sites and upgrade if necessary.
This info was given to me directly by KeConnect - i have no "connection" with them whatsoever!.

There must be a problem at Trewethett Farm, the pitch I was on was less than a 100m from the antenna and I was only getting a 14% signal,
but I was getting a much stronger signal from Ocean Cove (or view)
which was further away.

When I'm home I get a good signal in my garden shed which is about 70m away from my HomeHub.

Thanks everyone who answered my original query

Currently at Burrs Country Park CC site. Can see the WiFi attenna but cannot pick up the signal.

Used the WiFi at Clumber Park recently through KeyZone but using my BT Openzone minutes. Complete pain. Every time I logged out I could not get back in without calling BT to log me out. They said it was a fault with Keyzone that it kept me logged in (not using minutes) and stopped me being able to log back in.

Use my Vodaphone dongle it's much easier and much faster

Hi, just spent a few days back in the UK and stayed at Castleton in the Peaks, nice site, no Wi-Fi. Then stayed in Chester Fairoaks (Chester? its abit like a Ryan Air ad calling Hahn as Frankfurt - it's 120 Ks away!) Site was fine tho'. Took the 1 hour Kezone option and had a lot of problem getting a decent signal, eventually had to sit in the Information room! I travel a fair bit and I'm pretty computer savvy but this is a very poor and very expensive option. I think as a large organization the CC could do a lot better; even some repeater units on someones domestic broadband connection would be better than what they're offering. I like Club sites, you know what you're getting, but wi-fi, forget it.
A lot of sites over here on the Continent do wi-fi for a couple of euros a day, sometimes for free. I don't want to harp on about rip-off UK, but from where I'm sitting it seems to be the case....

Had to use 3 Dongle instead.
If that's their best efforts then they should have saved our money.

I tried it at Edinburgh in January, site relatively quiet. Waste of time and money. Had to speak to the support service to get a connection.

Thereafter it regularly dropped out, no signal at all, even though we were 30 yardsline of sight to the aerial. I'll try the Openzone facility next time. Certainly wouldn't pay for such a poor service again. The wardens just shrugged their shoulders when I complained.

We used Chester Fairoaks for a week about a month ago and paid for Keyzone because we were househunting and wanted Rightmove and email access.

Mrs SDA had the idea of powering up the laptop as we drove round the site looking for a pitch and checking where the wifi symbol dropped out.

The first pitch we chose, round the back of the toilet block, had no wifi signal. We pottered the site round three or four more times like lost bedouin 'til we found a free pitch with a strong signal, an outlook that didn't include major parts of the National Grid or ICI's infrastructure and wasn't under the trees where the local flock of enormous shi**ing pigeons practise their dark arts on unsuspecting campers.

Calling it Chester is stretching things, Ellesmere Port would be more accurate but somehow doesn't have the same ring.

Our tenure there is remembered for the verbal earbashing I got from a newly arrived member whilst I was emptying the Thetford late one evening. Apparently his EHU was dead and he'd tried to raise a Warden and been told he'd have to wait 'til morning. Mind, the last England football match was just finishing on TV. I got so much of a ticking off anyone would think I was the Warden's manager or something. Anyway he definitely wasn't a happy tugger, but his main concern was that he wouldn't be able to watch his TV. I can't say I was all that sympathetic as we don't have TV on board and enjoy getting away from the 'opiate of the masses' and in any case the SD's were tucked up in bed 20 minutes later it was that late.

I cannot help feeling that the clubs are investing in yesterday's technology for receiving internet on site. If the mobile phone companies get their pricing right and in particular make it more flexible it seems to me the way to go.
Mobile phone signals are not 100% but are a good deal better than WiFi coverage is on many sites.
Now Roaming Wi Fi at 125x the home price - now that is a real rip off! Hopefully the EU will be doing something about it.
Continental sites are not all roses. The free wifi is often just a normal home type transmitter in the office and you can only get it close to reception. Coverage can be patchy. It can be expensive and difficult to use. I find MacD. usually good and their coffee is not bad either. If you are in Switzerland you need a mobile phone with you when you sign on because they text you the key.
At Longleat CC the warden told me that they had done the survey in the winter and coverage was excellent but now the trees are in leaf it has become very patchy and they are having to install more equipment. perhaps this applies to other campsites as well. It is possible to produce good coverage (CCC at Chertsey for example) but it must be expensive and so I can understand the high fees. The original WiFi was designed for indoor use and i wonder if the frequency picked was not ideal for outdoor use?
