I have a (new to me) 1992 Talbot harmony autosleeper; but... and this is whats bugging my kids, I do not have the bits to make up the "roof" bed.

Does anyone have one, know where I can get one or have dimensions and any ideas on how to make one. Its all new to me but after my first weekend in the van I am well and truly hooked...what a life!!

Any help would be gratefully received

Hi regarding you queery about overhead bed,Ihave a talisman and basically the bed is made of a ply base with foam approx 3in thick, (I still work in old money)but since yours is,nt a luton type van I suppose the bed is made with two singles so that one slides on top of the other out of the way of your head.Hope this helps, alteratively look at one for sale (Dealers) then take photo,s and measurements, that,s what I do if I want any tips.Good luck and enjoy

After tea, I'll have a look - my bed bits are upstairs. Just thought, have you got the drop down over cab bit still fitted?

Mine unfastens from two straps and two press studs each side. It drops down onto the thin ledges either side of the van that run along to take the boards.

My drop down is still covered in 2/3 inch foam and blue baize to match the van. The boards are heavy solid ply about 1/2 inch - no foam, but I have a plan. Will measure as promised later. If you've got the drop bit, don't bother to reply, or you'll use your posts.

Get yer tenner out - this is your only hope of finding out the supernatural quirks of the Harmony van.......

Ok D4 - This is the non - technical feet and inches version!

All supposing you have the drop down flap over the cab, and the vans are the same measurements (mine is a 1995 conversion).

I have two 5 ply bits of wood three quarters of an inch thick. They both measure 52 inches by 19 inches. They are well chamfered all round and the corners slightly rounded to avoid splinters.

On one of them, I have a cut out square at the corner. Cut out following the long side is one and five eighths of an inch. Cut that crosses the short side to meet it is two and a quarter inches.

I have never tried them up, so I imagine this is to miss a cupboard or something that you may or may not have.

If I use them, I will make a cover for the memory foam matress that I have just lost two night's sleep at Elvaston on, and stick it up there. Kids mostly don't get aches and pains! Got to make a bag type cover, 'cos no room to get to end to tuck in at front of van.

Alternatively, I had seen some thin blow up camp beds with sleeping bags attached. Whilst on the blow up subject, I am going to use the quick up and down double that stows in a bag for our bed. If you do it, watch the thickness - don't want to be a Harmony sandwich filling!!

I reckon you can do this easily, even if the measurements are different. You must check yours!!!. If you are missing the drop down just add another board. Good luck to you. Don't forget 'net' if putting little kids up there. - Helena.

can you let me know what memory foam matresses are, can I just buy the foam and cut it to fit the bed that I am going to make, this sounds interesting.

I do have the drop down flap bit and it has foam in it already, albeit covered in blue like your one, is memory foam a comparable thickness do you know?

any more ideas on my harmony gratefully received, oh yes and one other question, if I use the dash radio while parked up will it run off th eleisure battery or flatten the vehicle battery? any experience of this?

Memory foam matress would, in the cheaper version be quite a good match for the level of padding in the drop down. That is why I will use it after failing to sleep on it myself. (It moulds to your body - lots of info in past threads).

The one I have has a stretchy cover, so could be cut and cover altered. Think it would be OK even as it is - but I will put a camp bed foam bedroll on the bare boards first, so that the surface is uniform to put the mattress on top. If you are stuck for storage, the blow up option takes less stowage. Memory foam is a big thing!

Little tips: always travel with the dropdown fastened up - I forgot, and all the junk up there fell on my neck whilst I was driving! + Don't move about in the van with it down other than when boards in place, 'cos you will turn round and smack your face on it. (Bitter experience).

I take a good battery radio with me in the van - so as not to flatten the vehicle with the dash radio. Also helps as you can take it outside to sit in loungers or to picnic.
