Hi all. Terry & wife Lesley here. Bought our first MH in March - 'W' reg Autosleeper Pollensa - had a trial weekend in May and then my wife decides that we should book a fortnight in France in June; with me only having driven abroad once before. Aaaaagh!!
Was actually far easier than I expected. The French are obviously used to MH's and because I cannot see the drivers behind waving their fists and mouthing Gallic curses, I don't worry about them.
We had a couple of days just outside Versaille and then poodled down to Burgundy. Found some great sites (from both campsite books and MHF web pages) and then wandered back up the Loire valley via Chartres. Found driving on the 'wrong side' fairly easy, probably due to the much better view obtained from a MH cab.
Pollensa a great little 'van; suits us well. Quieter more powerful engine would be good (Ford Tranny 2.5) but generally V.G.
One reason that I drove fairly slowly (55-60mph) was to conserve fuel. Are there any tables giving MPG for various MH's?
Anyway, thanks MHF; dug up a lot of helpful info before our first foray abroad. Can't wait for the next trip.

Hi Terry and Lesley, and welcome to MotorhomeFacts
We used to have a Pollensa, but the Peugeot 1.9TD version. In 2006, we had a lovely holiday in France, trundling down the left hand side looking for warmer weather, until it was time to come home again. Last year. we ventured further afield, staying at Lake Garda.
Apart from one puncture each year, the van performed beautifully - nothing broke, nothing fell off, and we had some great holidays, and fantastic weekends too.
We bit the bullet towards the end of last year, when we thought we knew the shortcomings of the Pollensa (for us), and we invested heavily in the van we have now. Absolutely no regrets, although we do look back to our time in the Pollensa with fondness.
Happy travels, and hope you manage to get away again soon!
Gerald

Glad you had a great time in France, we also ventured across the chanel for the first time this year, and had a fantastic time.
Here's hoping you continue to have many many more good trips in your van.

Also in Wiltshire

Hi Preacher-man and welcome we are also from Wiltshire (Swindon) we have had our motorhome for 6 months now and are just getting the hang of packing it, having spent many years with a tugger ( caravan) and also what we really need to take rather than what may be useful. Hope you have many more holidays and weekends away drive safely

Hi rowley, obviously I'm not a native Moonraker - I had to go on t'internet to find out what it meant.
No, only been here 18mnths. Moved from Portsmouth, no room there for MH. drive only big enough for a Mini.
While I'm on (so to speak) do any meets/rallies happen mid-week? We're a bit tied up at weekends.

Terry, the mention of Pewsey brought memeories flooding back of my having written off a Police Morris Minor Traveller. I was a young squaddie driving a LWB landrover in approx 1969 returning to Blandford from Malborough college. The Police car swung into a side road and did a u turn before pulling straight back across the road to go back the way he came. He stalled across the road and I ploughed into the side pillar. Oh happy carefree days.
