Help needed with internet access etc. Forums

Hi all
We have been based at my mum's house and using her phone line to get broadband. Mum died recently and BT have cut off the phone line. The house will be sold - my brother owns it.

We now have to decide how we access the internet.
Our options seem to be - the library system, getting a dongle (!) but don't really understand them.
We do own a piece of land and have been vaguely thinking of making it into a CL type campsite. Would it be cost effective to have BT instal a phone line and use that to get broadband?
What do others do?

Any and all suggestions welcome.
I will only be able to respond intermittently as I have to cycle 4 miles to the library!!!

Hi, not sure what to say...yes an alden netmaster is one way, but costs about £3k and a little extra for fitting, and then monthly costs were around£15 - whatever you want.....so if money is not any object, a good way, and I think it also gives you tv sat in the same kit....but look on

The alden netmaster has another advantage in that you can also use it for making and receiving Telephone calls (VoIP) using Skype Out or a VoIP router.

IPCopter, the ISP behind the alden netmaster, are currently working on their own VoIP system so the whole thing - Internet, TV and Phone could be available in "one box" shortly.

I use a Vodafone express card, and a router .

This has given me mobile broadband in every area in the south east and east anglia that I have been to thuus far.

The express card was about 25 squid for an 18 month contract, and the router was a hundred pounds or so.

I reckon this is an excellent piece of kit, and has, last week, enabled 8 people to be online at the same time, with no problems. The only caveat, if applicable, then it requires 240v feed for the router. ( it does work with 120v, but its really iffy connection wise.)

Do you need a dongle for the T Mobile web and walk or do you use your phone as a modem?

you can use either G but to get the fastest speeds your phone needs to be capable of 3G or HSPDA.

I have never had a T Mobile dongle but have used the web and walk since March 2006.

You would need either the usb/serial cable or bluetooth/infra red technology to connect via the phone
