I ordered a Whale Superfil immersion pump, intending to use it to pump water from an external Fiamma water carrier into the van's tanks. Naively, I assumed that as it was 12v and had a 2 pin plug it would fit the flat 2pin sockets in the van - and if I needed to get an extension socket I could easily do so.

However, now it's arrived and the plug for the pump has 2 round split pins, and appears designed for a permanent installation on the outside of the van. Riversway (who've been very helpful) do not have a suitable adaptor, and I can't see one on the Roadpro or Towsure sites.

Anyone have any ideas? And would it be better, rather than getting an extension cable, to try to extend the water hose on the pump? (Although that could be interesting as well - the hose external diameter is around 15mm, less than our water hose.

Apologies in advance if people have ideas and get no response - we're away for 10 days from tomorrow and haven't yet set up mobile broadband.

I'm not familiar with the type of plug you have but wondered if a 'continental adapter' would do the job [they make different round / slanted pin ones for various countries

Thanks for the idea but I've just had a look at our universal travel adaptors - the one that has the right shape pins is about twice the size of the plug on the Whale.

I have a similar pump and have a 2 pin socket (which came with the pump) next to the water tank filler. The socket was intalled by Damondunc.

One thing I have found (to my cost) is that you must not under any circumstances let the pump "run dry" or its a new pump. Therefore I very, very strongly recommend that you install the socket next to the water filler so you can monitor it.

Now I do have a spare 2 pin socket for a whale pump and if you are close to Silloth PM me about it.

I got one from marinestore-ashore.com with small 12V flat pins. + I got a car plug for lighter socket from Maplins LED BV46A or BV 63T (unfused) - I went with the car socket and a connector with an extra bit of wire to stretch.

Always worries me a bit about the car battery - so you are probably better with the 2 pin!

Thanks for responses.

@JQL, handy tip about the pump - I remember once I had a car (old Citroen Visa I think) where the rear wash wipe pump kept "exploding" if you ran it too long. So the initial thought of an electrical extension may be the best idea, given that for only very occasional use at festivals etc I don't want to get an external socket wired in. (Incidentally, from your mention of Silloth I guess you are very close to us in Allonby? I do have a socket with the pump, though, but many thanks for the offer.)

@Vardy, thanks for tip - I can't see a socket though to take the plug on the Whale pump - did you use it for a Whale? (If not, it's a small 2 pin plug with round split pins - not a type I've seen on anything else.)

I'm just down the road... Infact I'll be driving through Allonby twice tomorrow (Tuesday) on my way to and from Workington.
