What car do you tow? Forums

Hi All,

I thought it would be interesting to see what others tow and maybe there reason for the choice of car.

I tow a Fiat Seicento Sporting mainly because of its low weight but still a proper car (well almost but I love her!). I am thinking of changing to something a bit bigger. Instead of running 3 vehicles we could maybe come down to 2 and save a bit of money, replacing our family saloon with a more economical car which can be towed within my GTW (MAM 1650k), e.g. Punto, Yaris, Jazz etc.

Please, no legality questions this has been amply covered in previous threads.

We started with a Smart. then we needed a bigger car and went to Chevrolet Matiz,
The we went the same route as you are thinking and replaced family car (Audi TT) with a HONDA JAZZ
BTW you cannot tow the CVT version of the Jazz but you can tow the Toyota/Citroen/Peugeot CVT varaints.
The Jazz is the biggest car we could tow and after much research came out top in it's class (J D Power) and 3rd overall best car only beaten by the Lexus and Toyata Hybrid.

If wanting to take a car of decent proportions, why not use a proper car trailer ?
It is no more difficult than using a close coupled type of A frame, possibly easier in fact.
The trailer follows the van, and is big enough to be seen when negotiating tight spots, so enabling other traffic to see you load.
Also, the trailer takes the wear and tear on tyres and running gear, and can carry other bits and bobs for campsite use.

We tow a fiat punto on a blue ox towbar with brake buddy. punto weighs in at about 1000 kgs.

We are about to get our Mitsubishi Colt CZC2 hardtop convertible fitted with an A-frame for towing behind our RV. We chose that particular car so that we could have a convertible as a second car for those few occasions in the UK when the sun is shining, but which is small enough to be towed.
