Can anyone offer any advice regarding towing a trailer. I have a smart car on a bantam trailer. The problem is that the trailer is about 250mm narrower than the motorhome so that it is not visible in the mirrors when straight. When reversing by the time I can see the trailer it has already started to turn and being short it soon starts to jacknife. An HGV driver friend of mine has suggested fitting marker lights so that they are visible in the mirrors but I am reluctant to follow this route as it involves wiring and always turning lights on before reversing. Has anyone used any other methods. Any help would be much appreciated.

Why not invest in a rear view camera then you can see exactly what the trailer is doing when not only reversing but when driving as well.

Hi Bob thanks for the quick response. I do have a reversing camera as well but because of the kind of telephoto view you get and because the trailer is so short it doesnt help.
I am sure I have seen luminous flexible prongs which could be attached to the rearmost point of the trailer but I cant for the life of me think where I have seen them

Try this site for marker lights, we had them on the rear of our trailers so as too be able to see the end of the trailer when reversing in the dark.

As a retired H.G.V.... L.G.V instructor i have seen this so much the mistake you are making is that you are reversing much to fast and turning the wheel to much the speed should be that if i cant put my foot under the wheel and move it when i feel it start to go over my foot then you are going to fast. you try it and see if im not right

Try using little flags in bright coloured material, on very flexible poles.
Something like those used to mark out road works.

I would adjust the camera angle so I could see the trailer .
Other wise why bother having it.
