Can anybody help with identifying the two electrical conectors behind the interior light in the x2/50 cab. I am looking to run a live ( ignition on ) to the rear of the conversion ( overcab coachbuilt) to run a reversing camera. I already have the camera in place and it works but only when in reverse gear, the camera is a remotely operated one. I would prefer to have the camera on whilst driving in forward gear to keep an eye on my cycle.

Regards Tim

Tim,
There are three connectors on mine.
One goes to an empty connector in the drivers side step where some wiring goes to the rear of the base chassis. Could be for a rear view camera.
The second one disappears behind the dash, and from memory goes to the fuse box but no fuse connected. Power and maybe switching for reverse.
Third one was never traced but may go to the wiring harness on the passenger side which also goes toward the rear of the van. Not certain, either switching or alternate camera wiring.

There is an option on the normal panel vans to have a rear view and passenger view camera installed, smaller dealer may be able to help with tracing wiring final locations but obviously the rear part of the wiring harness has been altered on a motorhome so positions may not be relevent and are probably not connected from the cab rearward.
Martin.

Thanks for the reply Martin, I have two small connector plugs at the rear of the conversion, do you know if it is possible to check which, if any, these may connect to in the cab?

Tim, looks like there may be variations in plug locations but (having to work from a failing memory) the two pin plug should be the one that goes to the internal fusebox.
If you have a multimeter, one side should be ground (negative), the other will appear to be open circuit. It is this one that goes to the fuse box but may not be connected or is in a position with no fuse. Presume this would be a permanent feed for a monitor.
The other plug just goes to the drivers side foot well(in my case), nothing connected to it. This may have been for video or power to the camera.
My third plug goes to the passenger side footwell. Never traced this fully but nothing connected again. Could be for reversing sensors or camera power, not sure.
Definately (in my case) non of the wiring goes to the rear of the van, stops at the rear of the cabat best.

I have a 'Kampa' reversing camera, the control box actually has an internal switch so you can have reverse or on all the time.

Sorry I cannot be more helpful.

Martin.

I have just looked in my Swift handbook to see if I could do it.
The book states "It is illegal for the monitor to be used whilst travelling in the forward direction"
I hope someone who knows can give a 100% correct answer?

Steve

Ditto......and is so useful and a real contribution to safety. It doesn't distract anymore than a conventional rear view mirror.

I think you will find it's classed as a TV.

You will find them on LGV Wide or Long loads (also Ships)
But these carry a second driver/mate who should be the only one
looking at the monitor.

Chris
