what is an advisable / optimal length for an ehu connection cable? bearing in mind portability / storage / average distance from a powerpoint on a site?

i've just bought a 10m one off ebay, but looking at it, it doesn't seem that long.

Hi Chris

Ooops!! Shocked

Don't get rid of it though, as it may be useful for doubling up on the continent (or even here) if you find yourself out of range of the standard 25 metre cables.

Do go for the orange ones though, for visibility. The blue ones are OK but I don't think they show up so well.

The continental black ones are often much thinner, with the several problems that brings with it (won't bore folk with those details here).

Hope this helps

Agree with above. I think the CC and C&CC clubs like you to have orange so they don't mow through your cable !

We carry two cables, a 10m and a 25 m. Most of the time we are close enough to only need the 10 m and this saves unrolling and spreading the long one for only a short distance. Sometimes the 25m is needed and, very rarely and reluctantly in Europe, we have had to connect the two.

Ours is the standard 25metre orange cable. Haven't yet found a ned for an extra cable but have heard of many continental sites that require longer tan 25metres.

I have as it happens, but postage to Bantry will be more than the cable is worth. Shame. Crying or Very sad Crying or Very sad

Check a local caravan accessory shop before you go back onto Fleabay. They may be cheaper without the postage - even from withing Ireland.

Cheers

Hi chrisblack

As already indicated, keep your 10m lead and get a 25m lead. Also consider making up/or get a techie to make up, various plug and socket fly leads with a selection of plug and socket variants. (reverse polarity would be a handy one if you intend to go abroad) as would continental plug types which often vary from country to country. Plenty of advice and details on the site to find extra details.

Cheers

Check with local caravan dealers too.

Don't know what it's like over there but some dealers here take out the accessories from caravans they've taken in part exchange.
It means that purchasers of the caravan need to use their accessory shop. Sad

They will sometimes sell you one of the removed hook up leads if you ask. Smile

I echo what Grizzly said. Best have both, they don't take up that much space. Nice thick orange ones give confidence.

Having said that, there was one site with EHU where I couldn't reach the borne with 2x 25M cables joined together. Pah.

The club sites in this country do sometimes need 25m, and they do not like joints.
On the continent - "anything goes"
