we picked up our new mh on 29thjan05, 30 mins later we were in a car park talking to a couple who had purchased a mh and had managed to get the vat off the purchase because the mother or mother in law was disabled and would be using the mh.
a friend of ours is in a similar position and is considering buying a mh and i wondered if anyone had anymore information on this.
thanks in advance

if you get the van without vat don't forget you can get servicing done vat free as well - need to show the papers. I checked this out for a garage client last year who had a customer come to him requesting vat free service.

There were also discussions about this on the Motorhome-List on Yahoo Groups back in November 2003. You can find the site here If you're a member go to message 43958 and follow the thread. I know some of those envolved in that discussion post here so perhaps they can help further?

Just come off the phone from the HM Customs and Excise and have been told the VAT rebate is ONLY for people who are in wheel chairs or in/on a stretcher.

VAT law provides certain reliefs for people who are “chronically sick or disabled”. “Chronic” is taken to mean lasting a long time and therefore excludes injuries of a temporary nature. However, a long term condition does not, of itself, determine whether someone is chronically sick or disabled. For example, not all those suffering from long term back problems will be chronically sick or disabled; some will and some will not, depending on the severity of the problem. “Disabled” is also taken to refer to a long term condition and includes mental disabilities. Relief under this provision is not restricted to those who are registered as disabled persons.
