Hi
My parents are looking for an international phone SIM. To be honest, I didn't know they existed!

They mentioned

It seems to be a fair deal. Allows FREE incoming calls to your mobile in most normal countries, and call charges are "okay" considering.

Anyone know any better ones? Or any comments?

I've been using United Mobile. The service is okay, but I had several problems making calls until I spoke to Customer Services and found out that you need to select the network rather than letting your phone do it automatically. In France, for example, you need to use SFR or Orange.

You also need to be aware that there is a call set-up fee of 25 centimes so a 1 minute call costs 54 centimes.

Cheers for that. I spotted the call setup thing (my parents didn't Rolling Eyes ) but I guess overall evenso the price seems okay considering.

Interesting about picking network. I assume they tell you which you have to pick?

No, not unless I missed something. I only found out by calling Customer Services to complain that all my attempts to make calls were failing (and I had to do THAT on another mobile 'cos it was the only way I was able to get through!). The chap suggested that I try the two networks I mentioned for France, but I don't know the best ones to use in other countries.

It's a fairly lengthy article but the bit you want is towards the end.

Hi folks try "E" Kit, you get one phone number for all locations also incoming calls and incoming text are free. The net work is selected automatically, the cost of most calls is 32Cents (American) a minute, depending on the the country you are in. you require a tri band phone which is not locked to any net. there web site explains everything.

the other point worth mentioning about united mobile... is that you get a UK mobile number.

when family members etc call you, if they have inclusive minutes on their mobile plan then they don't pay to call you.

I looked at some other sims but they have lines in Lichenstein or Estonia... this means expensive calls for people calling you.

Wilse

PS I bought a MY CHERRY mobile sim, what arrived was United Mobile!

Hey, one of my relatives travels fairly often, twice a year maybe, and uses go sim. It’s quite good because the credit doesn’t expire, so she just pops in the sim when she’s out of the country. Usual stuff- works in lots of countries and is pretty cheap… free incoming sms/calls.

In my spreadsheet of all costs and anticipated usage (ok - I'm a little sad) - these come out the cheapest.

Is your phone number a UK mobile with them?
