Syria shouldn't present too much of a problem, I'm not heading anywhere specific, just a general 'all round' invasion. But, like Braesman, suggests I may let them off this year, a certain Mr Bush has designs on them also I may wait and then try to outmanoeuvre him. Thank you both for you kind advice
Meanwhile on the Tom Tom front I have downloaded the Aires de France OV2/Bitmap from this site, it seems to have picked up the file but won't display on the map, I can only access POI as 'Find' 'Nearby Points of Interest' but as the GPS location is not in France it doesn't find any, next plan is to download the UK speed camera database and try that.
Another question has occurred, can I link the sound output of my PDA to my CD/Radio? when I first tried the system I had to keep turning the radio down to hear it (yes the PDA was fully up but the 'van is a bit noisy).
I think I'll spare Syria and get the troops to build a 'monument to my humility'

gods blessings

Not too sure about linking the PDA through the radio, but if anybody knows how then I'm interested too (iPAQ 2210). The overall noise in our '92 Hymer 544 is such that normal conversation (whatever that constitutes) is fairly difficult at motorway speeds, never mind the dulcet tones of TomTom Jane.

I've seen some PDA mounts advertised with built-in speaker amplification, anyone tried this option?

I've found a 'headphone' socket on the PDA but I think it would need a looooooooong lead when I'm driving...More later Idea

Firstly thanks to Chris who was spot on. I downloaded a french campsites ov2 file and put it into the same folder as Major Roads of Europe and POI tab has now appeared.

Pharoah, try this. From the navigator screen hit the POI button. Choose any and TomTom will offer to navigate to it. If your GPS receiver is not plugged in TomTom should give you the option of navigating from the map centre. This should prove to you that your POIs are being recognised. I just tried this method and got the instructions to arrive at a camp site that was on a B road so it seems to do a pretty good job.

Can't help with playing the thing through your radio, (presumably you want it to cut out the broadcast whenever it has something to say). I would be interested if it is possible.

By the way. Ebay have things that plug into the headphone socket of an ipod and transmit a signal that your radio can pick up. I am sure it would work on a pocket PC as well. That, of course, means the radio has to be tuned into your pocket pc and you will not be able to listen to other radio signals at the same time.

The plot thickens...I don't get the POI option on the 'Navigator' screen but can get POI through the 'Find' 'Itinerary Destination' option. I think that's why I started this thread 'cause I didn't know how it ws working for other people.
I have to say you have all been very helpful and I've made a good deal of progress. Unfortunately Activesync is playing up and I can't syncronise to the PC I'l have to reinstall it....
Cheers, have good weekend.

Horah, got the Aires de France POI at last and the POI tab has appeared in both the Navigator and Properties window. I'm not sure exactly how/when but I tried dragging files into every possible location (SD card and PDA) I think what may have done it was pressing the 'reset' button on the PDA to make Activesync work (not sure why that went wrong).
Now it gets interesting, I've got the Aires de France but what I really need is a Stellplatz database, any clues.
I like the mobile phone kit option for the sound, I guess you just plug the headphones in. I think the next generation of these devices may well interface with the radio, I can't be the only person who has this problem.
Thanks for all the advice. Very Happy

Couple of Stellplatz POI files. One of them seems to be quite accurate, the other only gives an approximate location. If you PM me with your e-mail address I'll send them to you.

On second thoughts, I'll try and upload the file to the downloads section of this site.

Uploaded the accurate one, but it needs to be verified before it will be visible on the site.

I'll upload the other one at a later date as it isn't to hand at the moment.

Cheers

Most humble thanks, I look forward to downloading this once verified. (if there was a 'gratious' emoticon it would be here)
